Yea yea I know I am a noob ass. I have a VPS bought and can obviously login to it. It is a windows VPS. How do I host my domain through this thing is my question?? Anyone that can point me in the right direction would be great. I have looked all over the place and cant find anything except for a bunch of people trying to get referral commissions from a variety of hosting companies.

Alright smartasses I didnt type in "how to add domain to your vps" in google so I didnt get those results. But now that I know that I should've, thanks for the help! Ive been typing "how to host through vps" and that type shit. Geez fellas, calm the fuck down. Some of us are still learning.
 
First you need to install the required services.. An apache server, php, sql, etc..

Look up WAMP Server..
 
Concur with the previous guy. There is absolutely no advantage to hosting a domain on windows. It even costs more.

Replace it for a linux VPS and then Google for Linode vps setup or digital ocean vps setup. These two vps companies have the best user manuals on the web IMO.
 
If I remember right, for windows you need to install WebsitePanel or Plesk... most hosting VPS accounts should have a one click install for this. I would write your VPS host and ask them what is the best method, they may have a plug and play method they can enable with a few clicks.

Guys one more question , what about upload and download a lot? Can linux do that or we need window vps?

I hate window vps since you have to pay for cp panel every month and it is damn expensive

I'm pretty sure that depends on your bandwidth, not your OS.

Also, I'm pretty sure cPanel is for Linux too.
 
I am learning of this too, . As I see firstly what VPS you bought if it 's a not expensive that is a unmanaged VPS and you must set up it by yourself.If you buy a Win VPS and want to control it immediately like your last shared hosting , you must buy more attached service and tools/softwares which are installed by the VPS supplier. and the cost really kicks our ass ...Am I right and if anyone here have more detailed tut pls throw a link here. TKS
 
You don't need cpanel, there are opensource alternatives. Ok they are not as shiny as cpanel but hey, they get the job done. ISPConfig is a great cpanel alternative :)

Op: what will you be using the server for? Is it just for hosting your website on your domain?
 
First of all do you even need a VPS? Secondly, if you do than I would get a managed VPS because it sounds like this VPS is unmanaged and if you don't know how to host a domain on it, I'm pretty sure you won't be able to secure it. Get a better shared hosting account or at the very least get a managed VPS.

Go with an open source alternative. Also if you only want to host your website on the vps then go with linux. Its cheaper and better.

Option: 1

Install WAMP server or IIS server and configure your domain. WAMP would be easy one as compare to IIS. You need to download WAMP file in your VPS and then you need to install it as we install normal software. On the other hand, you can install IIS from server administrator(if your server version is 2008 or 2012).

Note: Do not browse anything in the server to avoid any security hole. If you want to download anything just browse in your local machine and then copy that link in the VPS.

Option 2:
You just need to install plesk panel in your windows server and then you can easy manage your domain from plesk panel.

Plesk panel will cost you. you can continue with the website panel or wamp/Xampp.
 
Lots of guides out there, you just have to do some research. If there is will, there is a way too.
