I know that the .com domains are the best. But, if you uncover a really good domain that nobody has yet should you go for any of the other extensions? Which extensions besides .com are the best?
Well, I have two answers to that... I would say yes if you can get the .com first.
I uses to always buy .com .net .... and have sold some combos like that ...which add value when you are trying to justify the cost of the .com at $6k-$8k ... you have negotiating leverage when you say ... Ok ...I will give you a both at my lowest price of $5k. Makes the deal look a lot better. Of course it has to be able to stand up to that. Plus if the business is serious they like to protect their interest of having at least those to.
Next part of that answer is this: You can sometimes buy others that are still good and have value the truth is this is so vast that it's hard to keep up with. Let me tell you why, the international domains exploded and they are all good if you are in that niche. The problem is if you don't have the bank roll which do you decide on? You almost have to pick one. Now I can tell you it would probably be much more profitable for me to delve into other international .tlds - and probably have a better chance of getting one that is short and sweet matching it's bread and butter ".com" counterpart. There is real value there. But I stick with what I know and what I am comfortable with. I have also proven a point of concept for my .com names.
I do see the .TV as a hot market with all the online media and technology developments. Only if it was centralized around exactly that ...(related multimedia or similar content). Some along those lines...again I focus on brand building which any domainer will tell you that there is not much value in ...!!!!! HAHA ... very untrue. We are on different sides of the fence. I buy names I plan to use, that can make a mutli-million dollar brand around. I sold one to an company that created an Energy Drink ...that is doing exactly that. That was my idea ...for my business. But the offer was there and the money was there. So I sold it. They buy names that are general enough to get parked revenue or traffic. But these methods both have value. .TV's are still a little costly ... but I say worth it for the right names. That also makes some of the 'right names' more available. -Beause someone has shell out more then 3 or 4 times what they would for a .com ....that lowers their purchasing power and thus leaves a few more .TV's available for the rest of us.
The next hot industry in my opinion .mobi //// Many peopl will say the iphone killed that theory with there full browser view. I ready article on this very statement just the other day. UNTRUE! ...
Wait until you see how .mobi comes into play. Google's acquired Mobile Startup Android in 2005 and has aligned itself with some of the largest cell manufactures for their software based phones that should be out by 4th quarter 2008.

According to the CITA the International Association for Wireless Telecommunication it claims that there are current 258,298,559 Subscribers in the U.S. ALONE!!
Make no mistake ...you will here of .mobi /// I know there are some people buying those religiously ...and even of those top domainers asking, "When is this going to break".
It will ....give it time.
It all sounds cool, but is it really worth it - ROI / time wise ?
I don't know ...how cool does $60 for every $8 you spend sound? Depends if you are into this or not. It's a small amount of time. This is something you brainstorm about when ever you have time. check names. register.
After that it can be as busy as you want it to be. Market it for sale, or build something around it inexpensively and sell.
I appreciate you folks sharing. I've looked into this many times, but whenever you do a search on the various aftermarket domain re-sale places the large bulk of the listings all have zero/0 bids. It seems there is a MAJOR glut of domains, and not many buyers - even on two word, no-hyphen older .com domains.
Is it more a matter of selling many for a few bucks on forums like namepro's, than it is listing older .com's on the auction houses hoping to make some good money?
When you see these it's because the general public isn't really looking at these site's and YES you will probably have a hard time selling those names to other domainers!
That doesn't mean they are not valuable. It means that is your wrong audience. Don't target to them. Some of those sites ...I would ONLY use for additional visibility if it allows me the flexibility to still park wherever I wan't they may be making me money.
I know of a company using similar techniques of mine. They have roughly 13k names. They buy for $8 (roughly) and don't sell any under $1k ..... THIS DOES WORK PEOPLE.
Obviously they do have the bankroll to continually buy ...which is crucial to the way there business model is designed. However, they are putting so many good names out there the return is absolutely worth the investment and there are additionalA ways to monetize these why they are not being sold.
Any of us would be taking that applied concept and just doing it on a smaller scale. That scale still has a large profit margin.
Sorry about the long long post... but it's all relevant info. And BTW , thanks for all thanks.
Now if the mods can fix mine ...so it shows people I have thanked since I joined....what's up with that?
