Yelp Entry Ranks Higher Than Website

    Description:

    Google...

For one local business (Business A), when googling the city and industry, their entry in Yelp ranks second, yet their own website ranks fifth.

The number one ranked site (Business B) also has their Yelp entry ranking third. It is also the highlighted map entry on the right.

Ranking fourth is a Yellowpages entry for a Business C, and no entry on first page for website.

Business D takes the sixth (website) and seventh (facebook page) ranks.

Then, google image results are presented.

    Bing...

Surprisingly, Bing Results has Business A in the top two spots (Yelp entry in second).

Then, Local Results show Business A, then B (only two).

Then, back to Bing Results, where Business B is ranked third.

    Questions:

Yelp and Yellowpages entries above two of the businesses (A and C), on the first page? It seems none of these businesses are managing their online presence well (B seems it might be the exception), would this be a correct assumption (opportunity!)?

That said, just to understand, are Yelp and YP entries "juiced" by overall traffic for those services? Or, does the Google Result reflect that the entries themselves get more traffic than the websites?

I've seen this many times. It actually happens a lot in my industry. The rankings however continuously bounce around. Yelp is pulling a lot of weight especially in the local SEO game in my niche. You may need some higher trustflow links coming in, vary up your anchor text some more with generic, url, longtail, and some exact match keywords. Yes I would also assume that a lot of businesses aren't paying attention to SEO as much and not outranking Yelp which gets a lot of traffic, referrals, and local searches.

    Thanks!

Confirms my hypothesis, as Yelp has it's own juice as an authority site of sorts, but, for local, if a business is "doing it right", their site should rank above their entry for Yelp.

The interesting thing is that Yelp entries for others don't necessarily show up. So, there must be some correlation to the same drivers for ranking a company's own web site.

Maybe it will be a different story down the road if Google buys Yelp.

Bing doesn't bring me any business in my local area.
I've been running ads and have yet to get one click in a month.
I dunno if I would waste much time on bing for local seo.

That's an interesting topic itself - where is there profit (if any) with Bing ads.

I presume you mean add a business to Yelp? No idea for Asia (assuming they operate there, IDK?).

Try this page, or it's equivalent in the countries you specified:

Your website doesn't have the authority as yelp. Keep building links, creating citations and eventually you'll outrank the yelp listing.
