Recently, a few of my FB ad accounts have been getting hit with a 'yellow hold' issue. I have to manually pay for them, and if I don't, my campaigns just stop running since the auto-payment fails. This is a huge pain because I have way too many ad accounts to manage, and it's taking up so much of my time to manually pay for each one. Has anyone else run into this, and is there a fix?

I’ve also experienced this “yellow hold” issue — it’s usually caused by failed or blocked auto-payments. The fix is to update or add a backup payment method and contact support to remove the hold.

It sounds like a frustrating issue. The “yellow hold” problem usually points to billing or payment method verification delays in Meta’s system. In many cases, it isn’t about the ad account itself, but rather how the payment method is being processed.

This yellow hold problem is quite common, especially if you are running multiple Facebook advertising accounts at a large scale. Because Facebook detects unusual spending patterns, payment method risks, or accounts that have reached their limits. You should not use one payment card for too many accounts, Facebook can easily spam it.

This problem is encountered by many people when using personal advertising accounts. The payment error may be due to Facebook detecting unusual behavior because your card has been added to many different advertising accounts. They stop automatic payments for you to pay manually and check if it is your payment method. Even if you change to a new payment method, this situation continues on that advertising account. So I think you should change to a new account and if you have BM, using BM will help you pay automatically.

In my opinion, It is a situation where the ad account has a temporary hold placed on the payment card to secure payment — it is not an actual charge.

The main causes are that the payment card does not support holds or the ad account is new and unstable.

Possible solutions include:
  • Adding a different card or removing and re-adding the current one.
  • Creating a small campaign to trigger the hold collection.
  • Contacting the bank to ensure the card allows temporary holds.
