It's def more cheap - the only question is whether you'll be willing to run with that company for a year, and whether you indeed need hosting for a year. If you're just getting started, you might abandon the method after not seeing success, and in return your investment in hosting will be negative. In my opinion, the difference in prices (1 mo. versus 1 year) are not that drastic, you might as well run with the 3 mo. hosting plan for starters.
 
I always buy monthly, but after some time I can purchase yearly when I become more assured in their quality.
 
Yearly payments are suitable for both sides. For the provider , less fees and logistics and for the customer better prices.
Our customers for example prefer paying yearly because of the discount.
