yahoo policy change

not sure if this is the right place for this info because it is pretty general. but...
apparently yahoo has changed it advertising policy as of feb 1 without any public announcement..

they have changed their affiliate marketing restrictions so that affiliates no longer need to create an interstitial page to do search advertising on Yahoo. you can promote ads directly to 3rd party websites now

Also I've heard that links on Answers are no longer hyperlinks. I can't accurately answer that because I haven't posted anything on Answers in about a week, but it's a rumor I've heard.

If thats truth does that mean that I will not longer have backlinks from them to my websites?

i actually got this tip from one of my account managers who told me to jump on it now for a head start. so no i actually dont have a link

but it does come from a pretty reputable source, i dont think my AM would make it up, so although i have no actual proof in the way of a link i assume it is true and we will be hearing much more about it soon.

I dont use yahoo publisher myself, personally.. so i thought id just share the tip here for people who do use it. if it turns out to be false, i do apologize in advance, but as i said, i cant see my AM making something like that up for no reason to screw me up.

so if it is false, you all can tie me to the stake and burn me to a crisp, but if its true and you earn.. well then its a good day for all

Nah,

I appreciate the tip HOWEVER it is in my own testing and around $60,000 spent with them last year that their AM's dont have a fucking clue what they are talking about. It's also in my testing that trying to direct link can get an account banned, which is totally ridiculous when they simply could have said...dont do that.

However,

Your damn tip would have been great link bait man, but whether its true or not is still cool that you would share and let us know that it WAS a tip indeed.

if anyone wants to try and be the guinea pig, its there for you.

but tomorrow i will find out exactly where my AM got this info from and see if we can get to the bottom of this and see where the source is. maybe there is a link to the proof, and if so, i will definitely post it here.

and again i do apologize if i get some hopes up over nothing. but i think there may be some truth to it somehow because i dont think they would purposely screw with me like that. and you know the old saying, where theres smoke theres usually fire.

I noticed yesterday when I posted, my links were not clickable. I thought they've banned my site but when I did quick search I found that even those YA pages already indexed have been de-hyperlinked.

This shit is now getting ugly just like in myspace. DAMN

The people at Y!A are calling it a temporary thing, and they'll have it fixed soon. I'm calling it a experiment that will see usership drop by about 10% (just what Yahoo needs now- to sabotage it's most popular product/ feature).

They've just done it to see how turning off the links will affect their contextual revenue, as well as the user base. Crappy Yahoo is already starting to make Microsoft-type blunders.

ok. an update..

i questioned my source about where the source of info comes from about the policy change and this is a direct paste of the answer i got..

Hi - This has not been published information. We received this news from our Sr. Director through his contact at Yahoo. As soon as anything has been officially published, I will share it with you.

so this still dont tell much about where this originated, but it does come from a reputable source at one of the biggest and well respected cpa networks. so there is still a great chance it could be true

Glad I found this before I started another thread.. I just noticed my Yahoo Answers links weren't clickable. Here's the update according to the blog Ruck posted (thanks Ruck):

"Feb. 8, 10:00am PST: Just got word that we expect to have the problem fixed on Tuesday, Feb. 12. I will post more updates as the action unfolds. We do appreciate your patience."

I'm just glad it's nothing permanent.
