Yahoo Directory submissions, helpful?

Hello,

I run a business and well I want to rank high for keywords. I know SEO, i use scrapebox, all the great stuff like article writing. When i check my competition some sites have 1/10 of my amount of links but they are listed in DMOZ and Yahoo Dir and are getting ranked high.

I am wondering would it be good to do a submission for $300 per year? Is it really worth it?

Does anyone know how to do it? I mean the description, titles etc? Should i put very competitive broad keywords?

Yes,
Directory submission really helps in increasing the visibility of your website. The high ranked directories are well worth it.
 
Yes but dmoz is free and yahoo is very expensive, the real question here is: Is yahoo directory submition worth it?
 
Why quick traffic? That does not make sense. Can someone who actually knows about Yahoo Dir comment please?

That all depends on how much your business category is worth. If you mean for traffic, I highly doubt it will send much. If you look at a alexa dir.yahoo.com accounts for 0.1%of its total traffic. Also most of their traffic is from asia and africa.

It certainly is a factor in ranking in the serps though, so if you can afford it, it's worth a go.

yahoo dir.submission does help.but my opinion is that getting listed on Dmoz is more important.
 
Honestly I would look at it from a cost / benefit perspective. I have never listed a site with Yahoo because while I think there are definitely benefits to it:
1) Yahoo has like 3 users. I don't care much about them.
2) The price is ridiculously expensive for just one link
3) Google puts more weight on DMOZ (and uses that as the source for their own directory)

If I was going to spend $300 on a linking campaign (or whatever amount above that) I would look at either a linking package from the BST here, or more likely I'd look for a DMOZ editor who's approval could be bought for <$300 and get my site listed there, or spend it buying links on authority sites in my niche. Not to say Yahoo wouldn't help, I just think other things would help a lot more.

Very good explanation, thank you. Anyone here a DMOZ editor or know where I can find one? I need to get listed in these big directories and i applied to dmoz a week ago so would like to speed it the process up.

DMOZ Editor! wow if any one can point me then i could get few of my sites there easily. They are good sites but not listed there, i haven't tried even...

Yahoo Dir and DMOZ helps in serp and if you can get it then go for it...
 
I wouldn't do yahoo directory - too expensive. You wouldn't get any good traffic from it. Regarding SE ranking - while it might help you rank better in Yahoo (they need do some good to you for the money you paid) I don't see how listing in YD will help you rank better in G.
It will take you 5 min to submit to DMOZ so do it, but I submit my site 7 months ago and never heard back not get listed.

Yes it is definitely worth it, the directory doesn't give you loads of traffic but google classes it as a strong authority link. $300 isn't too bad when you think about it that's a equivalent to $25 per month, a business should be able to afford it.

Lets say two website owners spend $300 on exactly the same linking campaign but one of them already has a yahoo directory link, who do you think is going to rank better?
