I recently came across a listing on flippa where the dude is making crazy bank with his news/media blog. His stats for this year are:
Jan 2011: $7,389.36
Feb 2011: $8,064.59
Mar 2011: $3,855.78
Apr 2011: $3,248.55
May 2011: $9,929.81
June 2011: $7,718.28

He said that he has submitted his site to Yahoo Directory for $299. Has anyone had any experience with this, and is it worth it?

In case you were wondering what listing on Flippa - here it is:

I've read mixed reviews on this, but one thing I consistently read is that it helps your site's listing in Yahoo SERPS for sure. The $299 thing has been around for years though (I think there is even a thread about it on dp from 05), so someone might have more useful input than me.

I would not trust flippa anymore. I have been reading in the forum people got scammed so I suggest to really find out more. Alexa stats can be easily manipulated. Ask for more proofs, research the forum for people that got scammed on flippa and read the what other people suggested before buying anything like this.

About yahoo directory...I have few listings there and it was worth it before they closed all international directories. Before when you submit your site you were getting 4-5 links(yahoo ca dir, yahoo au dir etc etc.) and you should know that this is recurring fee. I did cancelled the card I paid for the listings and after 5 years my listings are still alive. Anyway I still believe it has good value.

If your competitors are there then you should look into it. Otherwise, it won't be a panacea and there are other ways to achieve that same goal for less cash.

From what I understand even if you pay the $200 it does not guarantee your inclusion.

I will take the plunge and submit my application today and report my experience here.

  • I will let you know how long it takes for them to review it.
  • If I get accepted (I better for $299, I read the criteria and I'm 100% compliant)
  • Effect on my Traffic
  • Effect on my ranking
  • How long for the effects to occur.

Wish me luck

Hi, i think you are doing the right thing, in my opinion if you have $299 to spend on links it's better to invest it on some of the quality link building services that are offered here on BHW than on 1 single Yahoo link.
