My specs are follows:
Intel Nehalem 2.13 ghz
12gb ram
1 tb hard disk
30tb bandwidth
15 ip's
I'm paying $278 for this...i guess pretty expensive ...I just wanted to put the best use of this or share this server with someone for a part of price...
So, if i add 1gbps to this config would it make a difference?
limited by cpu power? These programs do not use crazy amount of resources...
the only limit on xrumer is your bandwidth speed.... unless you have a bad computer.
Limited by cpu power? even my old quadcore amd runs 500 threads without trying hard at all, 1 gig line is absolute overkill as well for xrumer, whatever people will tell you.
And when did quad core xeon, 8 GB RAM and 80x2 SSD raid0 become a bad computer? And if u never felt limited by CPU then u r seriously doing something wrong. And I tell u the reason. It's because you think that you are running 500or 1000 threads but most of threads timeout because you network is choked. If threads time out then Xrumer has hardly any processing to do. No need to decipher captchas, no need of data processing and no need to use CPU. Did I make myself clear?
You should check how many links you are doing per min. 500 threads could very well mean 100 links per min or 2000 links per min. I use to push my core i7 PC to 90% and still coulnd't do more than 750 threads.
So, get the most powerful CPU that u can get and the 1 Gbps line. Those who say u otherwise just don't know any thing better.
Just for the note, I don't pay $300 for that configuration. I have my server with 1 Gbps dedicated line for less than $200. So if you need to pay $500 to get the 1Gbps line then think if it's a wothwhile investment.
There's 2 things that you should take into consideration.
Everyone is saying that it's $20 or so more to get a 1gbps port. That is true to a point but remember you are sharing this line with a few other people, so it will be near impossible to reach 1gbps.
You can get a dedicated 1gbps line, however it is going to be quite pricey. Your looking at $500+ for a basic box.
The cpu would be a limiting factor to a point, but I doubt you can use any more power then a decent core 2 quad or i7 to max capacity.
Your going to find that the hard drive is the main limiting factor.
Most 7200rpm Sata drives are only gonna write around 80mb/s which is around 640mbps.
So if you want to max everything out, I would either recommend you get a raid setup put in, get some SAS drives or even better get ssd's.
Also ram would come in as a factor, but a point to note is, that you can't utilise more then 4gb if your on a 32bit system (I don't think Xrumer or scrapebox is 32bit) so there's not point putting 16gb of ram in if you can't utilise more then a quarter of it.
Have a look into FDC Servers and see what the prices are. They specialize in media streaming and large ports (100gbps).
Also look at OVH who do 1gbps servers on the cheap, however they might not be worth it if your accessing US servers (aka google) all the time.
