XML Sitemaps - Submitted/Indexed Ratio Question

Hey everyone,

Been playing with sitemaps for a few days, can anyone with more experience be kind enough to confirm whether pages with HTTP status different than 200 don't need to be included in sitemaps at all? 301, 302 pages etc.?

If there just redirect pages I wouldn't see why you'd put them in the sitemap unless there's some reason to do it for ranking or whatever.
