Hey anyone here ever experience a red ring of death with there Xbox 360? I got an Elite, I was going to play it a little bit ago and turned it on and was hit with the red ring of death. Somehow or another my Xbox was upside down I think this is what caused the problem. I'm not quite sure how it was upside down because I was just playing it a few days ago and it was working fine, is it possible to play a game in an Xbox upside down? No one goes in the room besides me this is so weird. It just happened a bit ago and I am looking for ways to fix it, figured I would post here and see if anyone knows what to do since there are some smart people on this forum and gamers as well. Well off to search for some answers I would appreciate it if someone could give me some advice, no jokes please.

Open it up , Get a compressed air can and blow out all the dust firstly then turn it on.

Also how many lights are there?

Is it a e73 or e74 code?

Easiest solution is to use the paper clip or q-tip method. With the xbox 360 turned off, stick 2 q-tips or paper clips into the rear fans. You're basically trying to make them stuck so they dont spin. Turn on xbox, you'll hear a clicking sound (the fans trying to spin) and the q-tip/paperclip should be in the way. This will cause your xbox to overheat and shut off by itself. This can take up to 15 minutes so be patient.. usually it takes about 10 minutes. The rings should start to blink, when it does, power down everything. Now turn it back on and the RROD should be gone.

You can youtube this to see first hand how to clog up the fans. I've tried it and it worked, but as a warning, don't do it too often or you will end up breaking your xbox because of the overheating. The e73/e74 (i forget which one) just means that the solder from the ethernet port got disconnected and this helps reset it.

Hope this helps.

it has 3 flashing rings on it, i will try the duster thing first then the paperclip method still need to read a little bit about the subject.

not sure how to check if it is a e73 or e74 code at this moment.

e code errors usually come up on the screen when you turn the xbox on.

It sounds like you need a new Reflow or even a reball on the board and GPU.

Is your Xbox placed in a dusty and restricted air flow position?

I had one of my game boxes under it with a digital scale ontop of the game box then I would sit the Xbox centered on that to give it air. It makes a strange noise when its turned on that I have never heard before.

*Searching google atm, first thing I came across was a article linking to a clickbank product...... damn you BHW LOL*

wrap the xbox in a towel and let it heat up. This temporarily work. You have to let it stay on for an hour i believe worked for me but not on an elite.

What is the reball? I just picked up my Xbox to clean it and I can hear something moving around inside it WTF, sounds like its coming from the side by the cd tray.

What is the warranty status?.

Get on Youtube and look for the X-clamp fix. Its fairly easy but it is really just a temporary fix. you may get 6 months, you may get 6 weeks. You will eventually have to do as ahiddenman says above.

Then take it to a game store and trade it in against a new one. It will eventually go tits up anyway and again give you a RROD so you may as well cut your losses.

Ok I just fixed it doing the Q-Tip thing, thank god..

so this is only a temporary fix you guys say, and I will be needing a new reflow or a new reball? which one of these will i need and how much do they cost?

it is a shame I barely use my Xbox it shouldn't be giving me these problems I thought I was keeping it ventilated since it was off the ground. Im not 100% sure but it sounds like something is broke in the cdtray I am hearing a clicking noise and and if I shake it I can hear something moving around inside it.

My xbox had a RROD about 3 months ago. I fixed it via q-tip and hasn't broke since then. I guess it really just depends on the circuit board. Check craigslist and find someone to repair it and re-solder it (if thats the case) for about $20.

I'd be more concerned about the fact that the 360 was upside down, to be honest.

If it wasn't upside down, then you went in to use it and found that it had been flipped over, somebody owes you cash for a new 360.

Man I just typed out a long response to this thread like 3 meaty paragraphs and some how (probably my laptops touchpad mouse) the page closed out toward the last sentence, ugh what a waste. Anyway I cleaned out my Xbox with duster (took off the top panel and side panels) it was covered in dust. Anyone with an Xbox 360 out there, if you haven't ever done this I suggest you do it now. I used to just clean the dust off it on the outside shell and it looked pretty clean, but as soon as I popped those side panels off I saw a ton of dust. Save yourself the hassle I went thru if you got one and pop off the face and the sides, hit them with some duster and then use some duster on the back where the fans are. It might just save your Xbox (You might also be surprised the amount of dust inside them you cant see until the panels come off.)

Thanks to everyone who helped out, I love Blackhat World nothing but good people here in my opinion.. still look forward to any advice that I can benefit from on this matter or that others might benefit from. :pirate:

played my xbox for the first time after it bricked on my bigscreen tv, I was playing it for about 15 minutes then was changing settings on the tv for 1080p and the sound went out.. i thought i changed a wrong setting or something, then I checked my plugs and noticed the back of the xbox hd hookups has a tv / hdtv button, so i switched that over to hd and as soon as i did my xbox red ringed on me again!! FUCK YOU XBOX FUCK U BILL GATES, I spend $400 on your shit and then it breaks do to a overheating issue that is a factory fuck up on your end.. then you want to charge me $180 to fix the mistake that you caused after I shelled out $400 FUCK U Bill you piece of shit.. lol :)
