XBMC Video Plugin

I'm building a video plugin that will stream live TV. There are tons of other plugin offering similar features but I can't seem to understand how they are getting the URL updated. I can get the URL along with token that will work for 15 minutes then it expires and I would have regenerate the URL with new token. Is there anyway to automate the process? Whenever the URL gets updated on destination, it gets updated on the plugin?

Any of these plugins open source? Can you look at the code? I assume they are making network requests every X amount of minutes to get a new token. If that's the case you could sniff the traffic to verify.
