Just curious but does having www increase site authority or is the whole www thing more of a preference? I notice big sites like google use www but would like to know if there is an impact to rankings if I have sites that use non www urls.

    Thanks.

It doesn't matter really, as long as you don't have both, as this is a canonical error. A lot of webmasters find that they have duplicate content errors when they see an SEO report on their websites, and aren't sure why. It's because their website comes up as both www and non-www, essentially duplicating the content.

It's really easy to find out if this is effecting your site by just typing your website with www, then without the www into a browser. After pressing enter and going to your site, the URL on the address bar should only show it one way. Which means if you type your website into your browser with www and it shows up as www, then type it in without the www and it shows up without the www, then you have a problem. Basically, your site's URL should only appear 1 way after you actually go to the site regardless if you type it in with or without the www.

If your site is coming up as both, then a quick 301 redirect from the non-www to the www (or vice versa) will fix it.

If you've already done link building to the site, then it would be more efficient to have your site the way you've built your links. For example, if you built your links with www in the URL, then that's what you should redirect your site to.

    Hope that helps!

I think WordPress does the job for you, you don't have to worry about the redirection.

Add these lines to your .htaccess (assuming your webserver uses the Apache platform):

    Code:
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www\.(.+)$ [NC]
    RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://%1/$1 [R=301,L]
That will redirect all www. links to the non-www version and pass the link-juice at the same time (301 redirect).

There is no direct significance. I'd say go with www, that's the one I choose everytime.

I'd go the other way around :p
As none of the browsers nowadays even show http(s) in the address row, I feel that without www it's even more cleaner. But it's down to personal preference - just stick with one, doesn't matter SEO-wise which one. Just remember to 301 www and you're good to go.

Just get glued to one,go for WWW or don't go for it at all.But most of the sites have www people search you from Google search often so just focus on building high quality links and getting ranked on Google rest is nothing serious to act upon.

Always gone with www. You can set the preference in google webmaster tools which one you would like to be indexed.

if using a wordpress script it will automatically redirect to www. whatever you are using www or not www. just keep in mind that all redirections are perfectly working.

also if you are using Webmasters and using without www then set preferred domain wwithout www.

Otherwise it will let google to cache pages with www and without www.

let me know if u need more help

It doesn't matter. But put in mind that when you do a campaign... stick to what you started. If you use www then all your backlinks should have www If you started with no www then do not use it in your campaign.
