I have two sites that just Gained PR.

The weird thing is... one of them is just a ten page blog about a micro niche clickbank product with affiliate links all over hell- (less than 8 months old) and it went from PR0 to PR3 with only a few links! WTF? There are internal pages with PR2! Double WTF??

Next I have a site about torrents and downloading movies (six months old) that is a fifteen or so page site that is monetized with cpa offers all over the place and it went from PR0 to 1 (I have AMR'd the shit out of it) which is not as extreme but surprising only because......

I have a white hat authority site in the diabetes niche that is 2 years old (no Automated black hat linking at all) and went from PR1 to PR0. WTF?

One thing that is consistent is that all three sites mentioned are unique content written by me or my talented writers, but PR3 for an affiliate site from PR0 and its less than 6 months old? Is Wikipedia linking to me and I can't see it yet? WTF?

I don't understand what they are up to but I think it is time for some real sharing of PR experiences here so we can see what is getting favored and what is getting devalued, maybe a common thread will be discovered...

I have experienced the same. Have a site with shit loads of xrumer runs, tons of links everywhere from ALL different properties with original content. It went from pr6 to pr3.

Then I have a site that I dont do shit with. It went from 0 to 2.

How old is the site that you dont do shit with?
is it in a micro niche or a big niche?
Does that site have unique content on it?
What types of links does it have?

I have a one page site, 7 weeks old. From N/A to PR3....

Something is going on...

I think it's not about quantity of backlinks anymore. It's about relevancy and quality of your backlinks. Just like your story it also happened to me, I got a site with ultra blasted Xrumer and SB. From PR4 went down to 1 lol. Another site with backlinks less than 100 from article sites and web 2.0 properties went from 0 ---> 3.

*Its about 3 years old, 6 months older than my x-high pr site.
*It is super micro niche, with very few pages and very little content. The content is not unique except for local keywords, i actually have built and sold this same site to many clients, just changing their local areas and leaving same content.
*It has the same variety of links except for 1/100 of the efforts put into compared to the site with the dropped pr.

I think your right on with that response...

If this is the case, Im actually kind of relieved. There is more satisfaction putting out good content rather than link spamming. Sure it is more expensive and more time consuming, but it just feels right.

What kind of linking techniques / what kind of links and how many? Big niche or small?

4400 exact searches, exactmatchdomain.net, bookmarking demon and a list of 4500 sites i scraped myself and use with BMD :D + good onpage seo of course competition was not that hard, but i ranked out some authority sites with good domain age

i also had a ton of sites that got from pr 0 - 1. lol.

nothing special, coz it didn't affect the rankings.

I thought my site was doing good lol. It's 2 months old and went from PR0 to PR1.

4months old,and i have PR2 ehee and i have only 14 BACKLINKS
12-same domain
2-an edu forum

I wouldn't get my hopes up that the PR will hold up. Same experience here but I'm not holding my breath. Google screwed up their Algo. Just give them some time to fix it. :)

I think we need to clarify something: (having more PR) Maybe it will not effect rankings directly, but I can assure you that if we can figure out how the PR algo has changed we can easily use it to our advantage and MAKE it effect rankings.

If I have 3 PR 3 sites (because of the new PR algo change) and I link to one of my sites that needs help now that site WILL get better rankings due to the link value.

If I have 100 sites all getting "new PR" and I decided to link out to your site, it WILL effect rankings, and I WILL get paid. :D

So although it is not directly measurable in immediate rankings, PR can indirectly effect rankings big time, in the form of more valuer per link, which is part what I think is going on here so far.

The other thing I am thinking besides high link value effecting PR more now, is age of site linking to you effecting PR more now. I think PR is now giving more weight to age. Not confirmed yet, but it is looking that way so far.

Bottom line if look at it long term, (non faked) PR is money.

Very fucking intersting stuff going on with Gaygle now. The tree is def getting shaken.:D

I have a 3 year old domain which went to pr 3 and a 3 month old domain got pr 2!! Sam,e back linking strategy so age does not mean a thing!

I had a PR N/A site that is 8 months old that went to PR2. The site has 1 PR 3 link and 1 PR 7 link. The other 77 links are from shitty blogs/forums and a piss poor web2.0-2 page "linkwheel"

I've been dancing at #1 for about 5 months now for my EMD tho, so dosn't really matter.
