We all know Google have been fucking around with rankings because of the latest algo update but has anybody else noticed some of the shit that is now ranking for some search terms.

I'm not giving specific examples in case I end up outing someones site but I was recently searching for a specific auto electrical service near me and one of the top results is a blog offering tips with obviously spun content, the most broken english that will give you a headache when reading it and more grammatical and spelling errors than in a primary school english exam.

I know it should settle down soon but why are so many lousy sites ranking with such poor content when big G themselves have always pushed towards quality results in their search?

I'm baffled:confused:

Same situation over here , This update sounds like gonna take much time than we expect ! i wish google solve this shit soon !

If the organic results are too good then people won't click ads as much... Always keep in mind they are here to make money... then a lot of confusing shit starts to make a lot of sense. It is to their advantage to always keep paid ads slightly more relevant than the organic results.

This Google fucked up with rankings big time.

You're not kidding! I've just done some more local searches and some of the results are completely beyond belief.

The garbage sites that are ranking at the top are unbelievable.

I understand what you are saying but with the crap thats coming out on top in the searches I am doing, surely they will hurt Google more in the long run as people will turn to other search engines when they can't find what they are looking for.

I think not every time its happens. Though content is king but still backlink is the number one ranking factor and just do analysis that website and i am sure you will find some quality backlink.

Low-quality content, written by writers or agencies who charge an unrealistic rate that is almost close to the word "free", won't stay at the top spot for so long. People are smarter these days. When a visitor sees how unprofessional the content of a website is, even if it is at the top spot of Google, he might just click the back button or find "more trust-worthy" and "professional" resources.

I'm still all for a high-quality content, not because I provide content writing services, but because it's the only way to do business online. Your content represents you. Serious businesses, who want to stay in the game on a long-term basis, never settle with a cheap content.

We've been waiting for that for a very long time. I don't have much faith in that happening in the next few years. I think google sees it that way too and is pulling the cash cow lever with no fear of market retribution.

Not really bothered about links to those sites because I was looking for a service myself, not trying to beat the competition.

I agree but it doesn't make sense that so much crap is outranking decent sites ATM

True story, when that happens I'll be celebrating with a bottle of Louis XIII Cognac.:)

Google is an algorithm. Algorithms can't read or understand. Algorithms don't look for articles meaning. They look for signals like KW density, LSI Keywords ..etc. As long those are right, then Backlinks are the judge here. It has been like since google creation.

Hi, @KHer0. Apparently, that's what has been happening. This is one of the reasons why I don' rely on search engine traffic as my only source of traffic.

Exactly.

Funny thing is if you read the usual SEO guru blogs, all they do is replicate what Google says on the webmaster blog.

Google has ditched our site completely for all our keywords. We were top 3 for for our top 3 keywords and now we're lagging near the bottom of page 1 and still falling. It's not having a dramatic effect on traffic as we get a lot of branded search visits but we're a niche B2B business which relies on leads so time will tell the full effect.

We've never done anything remotely black hat, loads of fresh content, mobile optimised etc.

We're a PPC advertiser too, i'm considering cutting the PPC (currently usually 1st position) to see if that has an effect on organic position. My reasoning is that if Google has changed the algo to look at PPC results then it might look at us in pos1 PPC then ditch us in the organic to maximise profit (sorry I mean improve user experience!)

Any thoughts?

Everything is fine at my end.
SERP ain't moved a bit down also :/

Google has gone mad! Really, it's ranking crappy sites & some of them don't have good backlinks too. Here's website ranking #1 (also in rich snippets) for 30K monthly searches.

Hats Off to You Google!

I think you can rank with spun content. but only if the competition is too low with long tail keywords
