WTF is a LORA

Currently dabbling arround AI OFM and need to generate NSFW content. Keep hearing LORA this LORA that. WTF am I supposed to do. Found this NSFW model on civit.ai but figured I can only run it localy. Im I supposed to download that 11.2GB ??? Once downloaded what do I do ? I feel like a kid rediscovering the internet for a second time.

LoRA = Low-Rank Adaptation. Think of it as a small add-on file that teaches a base model new styles/faces/concepts without needing to download another massive model.

The 11GB you're seeing is probably a base model (like SDXL or Pony), not a LoRA. LoRAs themselves are tiny - usually 50-200MB.

Easiest path for NSFW stuff:
1. Download Fooocus (free, runs local, pretty beginner-friendly)
2. Grab a base model like PonyRealism or RealVisXL
3. Drop LoRAs into the loras folder for specific looks

CivitAI model pages usually have install guides and recommended settings.

If your GPU is weak, check out Runpod - rent GPU by the hour, way cheaper than upgrading hardware.

I’m new to this. I have a real-life model and want to generate more images of her. I’m on a Mac, what’s the easiest way or platform to train a LoRA from real photos? Local or online GPU? Any beginner tips would be appreciated!

LORA is basically a way to fine-tune AI models without needing a massive GPU farm. great for niche tools if you want specific outputs without spending a fortune on compute
