been working hard on my blog, totally whitehat. It is only acouple of weeks old tho, hosted on blogger and i have a domain name with my keywords in. Yesterday i was page 1 postion 5 in google for my main search term, (i was quite happy with that) today im nowhere to be seen.
All i have done to the site is ad 1 amazon affiliate link for a relevant book in the latest post (the only aff link on the whole blog), i made another on topic post, changed the blogger icon so it appears on the address bar as my own logo. (image was uploaded to an image hosting site). I made a few more comments on relevant topics at other blogs and forums as usual, i made my comments relevant and usefull as always.
today you wouldnt know i ever existed.
im a noob to blogging and all things SEO, all i have learned has been from reading posts here but this one has got me stumped, any tips?

edit: i should add it was one of the posts in my blog that was on page 1, there is a different post on like page 5 but that sucks. Just checked the post that was p1 and i thought i might have edited it and caused this to happen but it is as it was.

thanks

if the domain is quite new maybe you got some google dance :) ... nothing bad to worry , if your all links simply gone from G index ( site:domain ) ... you have deindex ... which can be bad .. really bad :) .. more info in this matter more help peoples can give you ... or ideas ... :)

thanks kaine, on reflection i am probably jumping the gun, its has only been 2 weeks.. was nice to be on page 1 tho. sounds like it was google dance seeing as other pages are still indexed ;)

dance along for while, continue good random linkings alongside targeted ones. use the full HTTP://WWW. com links sometimes. DO WHAT A NORMAL PATTERN of linking do and not all anchor and stuff. You'll pull through in a few weeks or days time.

Good luck

If it's a new url it is the sandbox effect. The G dance is something different based on updates and algo changes... if you're a new url, what you have witnessed is NORMAL.

One more tidbit of advice guys and gals... In the beginning I understand checking your rankings all the time.. I do, - Been there done that (got the ulcers with a free hat).

But I am trying to save you a heart attack - it will drive you NUTS - It changes every single day, sometimes for reasons you will never know - there are many datatcenters with different information almost all the time.

Check your rankings when starting up - you need a benchmark, then just do your work, especially if it is purely WH and don't worry about the rankings until you check them again in a month. This will give you back huge time in your schedule for more important tasks too.

We cannot change the updates or our placement once you are seeing it, so why are you worrying about something you cannot directly change (that day).

If you are doing what is accepted and constantly making your website the best you can in your category, then SE updates are your friend as they clear junk websites (which moves my site up without my doing anything new) This is the work you should be doing instead of daily (hourly) rank checks (IMO).

Thanks to all who replied... great advice as always... Love this forum :)

This always happens to my new blogs. I got 3 pages indexed, the second day 1, the third day 2 :) and so on for a week and then it`s over and remained indexed.

The very first time I did SEO for a guy it was about building model ship... I worked my tail off and got it to the #3 spot, then #2... then WTF.. it was gone.... I was floored, just like you are stating. In fact I felt like a failure and thought, this stuff doesn't work.

But the guy I was working for urged me to continue and so I did, it didn't happen overnight but it came back to it's rightful position in the SERPs. So my advice would be to continue, don't be disheartened, if any of knew the true inner working of the google dance, we wouldn't need to be here, we'd be on an island somewhere sipping rum punch.

well a big WTF again to google because im back on page 1 position 5! I undid some of my changes... i have a feeling it was either the affiliate linkor the icon image i had hosted at an image hosting site, perhaps google didnt like the image host i was linked to?? - just guessing here, really i have no idea.

Glad your site came back - but be advised that people can flag your blog on Blogger, especially if somebody thinks you have a spammy looking affiliate link somewhere - be careful. It's always wisest to host blogs on your own domain and then nobody can make your blog disappear for no reason!

Dan

thanks for the heads up Dan, im in position 4 now by the way and in position 1 for one of my lesser terms =) i dont think it would have been flagged tho, it is aimed at a mainly non net savvy audience and the link was to very relevant products.
I removed it anyway, i can cream it with affil links when im more established :) made a whopping $2 from adsense in the last 48 hours also :p
im still not appearing high in yahoo or live tho, gunna work on them next week
