Ok so I have been mouthing off about FB, might as well put my action where my opinion is.
Joined WT social, opted not to spend the $100 but it only took a few days to get an account.
First impressions:
1. It's Facebook, as imagined by Craigslist.
2. User interface is...well...limited
3. News feed management is similarly clunky.
4. For FB users, this is the equivalent of changing from Mac to PC. It's a platform shift.
5. The first adopters are dissidents from FB, the intellectuals and activists.
6. On the plus side, it's a good niche and they make a lot of noise online, relative, just probably not on this platform. Ironic!
Initial assessment.
If I was looking for the 'general public' level FB killer App, this aint it.
Too early to make any comment about longevity or other business impact, they've got staying power on account of being Wikipedia descended
I'm getting a vibe that this place my be 'wonkish', for political punditry followers you know what this means, for others just consider it niche-of a-niche.
That said, it might have the potential for being a strong 'forum' rather than social media...sort of...
I mean it's a strange hybrid.
There's something here, I have a feeling, not quite sure what.
Also my guess is this one will be hard to astroturf, i'd recommend establishing and maintaining an account for a while before trying to cross promote. My guess is the users will be as touchy as Reddit.
I'm trying an overt, direct, here-to-self-promote for one of my clients. See how it goes.
