I do admit it is a bit overkill, but I prefer to be safe than sorry.
I like login lockdown as it stops bruteforcing or passwords and secure WP for various features.
TAC is only if you download templetes as there is a chance they have been hacked or have malicious code in them. No need to keep after an initial chack.
Antivirus is kinda the same as TAC as it checks for malicious code, again no need to hold on to.
Totally agree though: Try to keep the number down. If I knew code I would try to do as much as possible myself, but alas I cannot, so plugins it is.
I think I need to go to fiverr again for my latest site and get my wordpress coder to take out all the hidden links in plugins.

You cannot do much about links coming into your site, but you do something about the ones in your site.
Sometimes I think making sites with plain HTML might be easier lol.
