Writing Simple Numbers

How do you guys write the number 2.5 million, numerically (using 0-9s) and commas?

2,500,000 is how I'd do it. Recently, they've changed it so commas a replaced with spaces (2 500 000), but I'd still consider the comma version correct. Anyways...

However, around the forum I've noticed people writing numbers in groups of 2s, which doesn't really make sense to me? Is it a common practice somewhere else in the world?

Here in USA and Canada, for numbers with 4 or more digits, we use a comma to make the numbers easier to read. From right to left, we group the numbers by 3s then on the left, is the excess digits. This is how we would write the following numbers with commas:

2 = 2
25 = 25
250 = 250
2500 = 2,500
25000 = 25,000
250000 = 250,000
2500000 = 2,500,000
25000000 = 25,000,000
250000000 = 250,000,000
2500000000 = 2,500,000,000

However, I've seen some people from other countries write 250000 as 25,00,00 for example.

Can someone clear this up for me? Are they uneducated or is it actually considered correct somewhere in the world?

Then again I'm from the states. You won't get everyone from all countries to agree I
think because we are from different parts of the world.

English speaking countries use comma's, others like in Europe use dots. They are always grouped in pairs of 3 though, counted from the right. A thousand Euro's and fifty cents would be written as 1.000,50 in The Netherlands for instance. That is as far as I know how it works, could be wrong though.

Which one is the International standard?

1.000,50 or 1,000.50

Depends on what language you consider international I think.

French is an international standard too but it uses dots instead of comma's like so: 1.000,50

With English at about 1.8 billion and growing more then any other, I guess the English one is the standard or will be the standard very soon.

Here we use spaces or dots, never commas.

I wonder how long that will last, in Africa the children are learning Chinese these days.

500 = A Monkey
1000 = A Grand
100,000 = A Plum

But in China they are wanting to learn english.

According to this link you may use spaces in France, as well as a period. There are bound to be other countries too but I am too tired to do a proper search. Perhaps balsagoth007 is from there?

In time though, as China is buying the world right now, literary, things will change I'm afraid. Most Chinese will not leave the country, Africa will rise with the help of the Chinese while they wait to bail out Europe. We will cost less in a year or two. lol
Just my opinion of course, I could be wrong. Also, times can change, a long time ago the language to learn in China was Dutch. We translated for the English speaking countries. Oh how times changed when we started to be "the good guy"...
