Writing first e-book

Hi everyone,

I'm writing my first ebook and I have a few questions.

Is there any better alternative to Clickbank? I heard people having a few problems with them.

If I sell it for $40 with commission of 50% would people promote it?

Any tips on building a landing page? Should I use Wordpress or are there any better alternatives?

This might be a stupid question but can I get into any legal trouble by using pictures I take from google images and putting them into my ebook to make it look better??

Best bet is 60% + commission on clickbank and people should go to promote it. You could use wordpress but get imwishlist, it's available for download in the dl's section. Google doesn't own the pictures from google images. I suggest getting custom graphics or stock images. Good luck

Wordpress allows you to update and add pages quickly and add comments. I'm pretty sure you want to keep your landing/sales page pretty static and avoid possible negative comments. (unless you want to fake your own)

Unless you plan on building an entire site around this book. (which is good) You can lightly cannabilize the book itself for content. Then I'd use wordpress.

for building a landing page, i wouldn't really suggest wordpress. build a custom landing page using dreamweaver if u can or u can try imwishlist like mentioned

It means to use certain content/information pulled from the book itself in order to provide content on your blog/website...

To answer the question about whether someone would want to promote it as an affiliate, IMHO, if that happens, it's going to be based on a few things:

1. What's the commission? I would assume most, but not all, affiliates are looking for affiliate payouts that are at least $20 to $25 dollars. So you would need to price the book (retail) at a price that provides this much commission.

2. What is provided to the affiliate themselves on the backend. What I mean is what additional content are you going to provide, such as:
a. Graphics
b. Banners
c. email messages
d. articles
e. keyword lists

3. Since most other affiliates promoting via clickbank look at the 'gravity' of a product, then your new book is really going to have to deliver a lot of 'punch' if it's related to the 'how to make money online' crowd. If so, then I hope you found a very good USP (Unique Selling Point) that is going to make your product stand out from all the rest and want to make someone want to become an affiliate.

Thank a lot H2oBoy. This is going to be a lot harder than I thought. Say 50% commission, I would have to price the book at around $50. I wouldn't pay $50 for almost any e-book unless it deliver A LOT. I guess I have a lot more work ahead.

I find it essential to put the commision rate at 20% and buy a couple copies yourself or have some friends buy it

It will add gravity and make it popular on the marketplace

Then, increase commission to around 65% and it should carry itself. Make sure you have a good product and you should see anywhere from 1-400 affiliate sales

It seems like I will not be able to go through Clickbank since my ebook wont be priced high enough to make it worthwhile for affiliates to promote when there are some ebooks on there that have commissions of $40-$50.

I decided I will try marketing it myself using seo and social networking. It's only my first try doing something like this so if I fail no big deal, it will be a learning experience.

In that case does anyone have any experience using Paypal as a merchant to sell your ebook on Wordpress? Is it a good merchant or should I use something else?

you can use paypal but you will have very little protection against reversed payments.

Take a look at this:

If you want to sell the book $40, then make it $47.
this already gives you a few extra bucks.
Not enough, go with $57.
It seems stupid, but it's a psychological trigger number where the customers are still associating the $47 with $40. $46 and below would do it, but not as effective + less money for you.
48 and 49 are also less likely to convert since we all know that 49 is just like 50..

Read a few books by robert cialdini. Look up robert cialdini and download an ebook of his.

just go out and see what other vendors are offering in your niche. this does vary per niche.
and just offer a little more to attract some attention from affiliates.

just make some nice coin on the frontend (or in the worst case just break even if you are in a competttive niche), but don`t be greedy.
your affiliates will create a really targeted and buying customer base for you, you can keep selling to them in the long run, thats where you should make your money.

and for the sales page, set up a decent salespage and split test everything for conversions, also test the price tag. a higher pricetag creates a higher percived value to the customer. sometimes you will see higher conversions at a higher price. imagine you where looking for a solution for one thing or another, what would you pick, the 7 buck report, or the $67 "super ebook" that wil solve everything in one hour??? the books are probaly the same, but the customer will see the 67 book as more valueble to them in their situation..
keep testing and improving. higher conversion means more sales. and posibly more affiliate wich will generate even more sales on top of that.

Add some other stuff to add value to it. Depending upon the topic you might be able to add a video tutorial, audio seminar, interviews, etc... This can beef up the product and make it more valuable. Then you can find some plr ebooks on the topic and add them as bonuses. It's all about perception of value.

As far as the web site, create a sales letter as a static page and use the micro-continuity method that Russel Brunson(?) has. It's good for something like you're offering. Gives you a lot of opportunities to build your profit margins.

Watch out for copyright on the pictures. You can get free stock photos from http://www.sxc.hu/ (Not affiliated, just use them for my sites). Sometimes you just have to credit the owner, other times not. In the search results look below the premium content.

You will not get a single affiliate with less than 75% comission if you are not already established and have contacts with affiliates from previous products.

That being said if you perform when your gravity reaches 30+ you can lower it to around 65% but any lower than that and everyone will jump ship. The hardest part about CB is getting a good affiliate base, you need to pay them the max or you will not get them.
