Hi there,
Not sure this is the right category for this post, so feel free to move it if you feel it would better suit elsewhere. Just for a bit of background, I run a Magento platform webstore selling pet supplies, our prices are very good (cheapest on a range of products) and our postage is very reasonable however we only seem to receive around 10-20 sales per day (we have approx 5000 SKU's online). We currently use a few shopping feeds (google, and a few others). So I though't i'd have a go at improving our product Meta information.
I just have a few quick questions in regards to Meta Titles and also Meta Descriptions, please see below;
1. I have a SERP editor that informs me that the optimum length of a Meta Description is 156 keywords and it shouldn't go over that limit. If I go over that limit am I causing issues with our Google SEO rank? Should i try to stick to exactly 156 or doesn't it really matter to go over/under that amount (most of the time we go over) at about 200 words (as we copy and paste the product description in the Meta Description field)?
2. How do you guys usually form the Meta Title? I usually just copy and paste the product title in there. Should I be adding keywords such as 'Buy', 'Shop' etc?
3. Are the Meta Titles/Descriptions that important nowadays or does google just pick information from the product descriptions by itself?
4. In regards to my product descriptions, I usually write the first sentence and then piece together product descriptions from the manufactures website selling the product. Is this hurting my ranking? If so what do you suggest I do, should I write the whole product description from scratch?
Any help would be fantastic, as i'm a massive noob at SEO.
Regards
