Write 1 Article Per Keyword Or As Many Niche Relevant Articles As Possible?

So I have learned a lot but lately I've been rethinking my strategy and something that has been bothering me for a while now..

My current website is in the health niche, it's pretty broad so I normally would find keywords that I could rank for with Keyword Planner and write an article for that specific keyword. (Ex: lose weight fast) Depending on the competition I normally have to do shitton of web 2.0's and whatnot to rank it and that's normally ridiculous work if I were to create backlinks for each article that I create.

So, I've decided to start a new website so that I can rank the domain for that keyword instead of building backlinks only for the articles. But I am not sure how to go by this.. I've been reading both seoCrabs and Bluematter's journey on Keyword/Niche Research and I understand it perfectly it's just a matter of how to go by it....

This new website will be an EMD, and expired domain with PR for faster ranking... but now I am confused on the keywords for the domain.. Should I find # of keywords and write an article for each of those keywords, or find a specific niche and write as many articles that the niche allows me to and only care about ranking the domain for that keyword..

ex:

domain: paleodietnow.com
articles: write as many articles as I can that fits in the paleo diet niche.

Then rank the paleodietnow.com for paleo diet...(home page)

OR...

domain: behealthytoday.com
articles: write 1 article per keyword that fits into being healthy.

And then build backlinks to the inner pages to rank them?(articles)

The main problem that I have with this is mainly that if I chose "behealthytoday.com" and wrote 1 article per keyword, I'd have to rank each inner page for itself, creating a lot of backlinks and taking a long time to probably rank.. imagine if I had 50 articles for that broad niche where I had to create backlinks for each one of those inner pages that I wanted to rank... It's mind boggling.

Any help and insight is appreciated.

I agree this is a good question. I'd like to hear some insight from other members too.

My .02 is Google ranks pages, not domains. I would recommend ranking your inner pages and that will pass link juice PA/DA/Trustflow w/e to the main domain page. Seeing as it's a new site you probably need to create the content any ways. Might as well get it noticed by Google too.

On a side note: I'd wait more that 7 hours before you bump something.

Thanks for your suggestion, that's what I thought as well but that is also what has gotten me in this mess of confusion.

This is not an either/or its a both. Your big money/high competition KW is what your main page/root domain should be targeting. This is the page on your site that is going to be most heavily backlinked and with most platforms your site's structure will be internally linking in such a way as to make it the most authority page on your site.

Of course content is a big help to your SEO too, and seems to be more so every G algorithm update. So you continue to produce your unique content based around related long tail keywords (articles on their own pages) and do some link building for these as well with the bulk of linking still being done to your main page. If you use WordPress - as an example - these will naturally be structured to support your root domain, which is the high competition, and the fresh related content in the same niche is going to help boost your entire site as well.

Well, I would suggest to follow the SILO Structure. Google now tends to rank "hub" or "portal" pages more. Those days are long gone where you could create article for every single keyword variation. So here's my suggestion:

1) Make a group of keywords that are closely related to each other. For example, Natural acne treatment, home acne treatment etc. Both these keywords can be targeted on same page.

2) Create one major article using all the variations.

3) You don't need to target all 50 keywords at a time. Find 2-3 such important or "hub" type pages on your site. This pages should get link from other related articles so that Google can understand that these are the most authoritative pages on your site. Then push those "hub" pages for all the variations of keywords. That would be the wise thing to do in my opinion
