Hi guys and season's greetings to you all,

I have a website with BBpress and BudyPress on it. I have captcha installed, so I don't have too many problems with spam bots, but I am having problems with manual spammers signing up and posting movie links all over the place. I'm thinking the best solution to this is to not allow members to be able to post links until they have made 100 posts or something (like BHW). The problem is, how do I do that? I have Googled it of course, but I ca only see coding solutions and I am not the world's best at that. I normally go for a plugin to do any specialised jobs.

Many thanks in advance for your time and expertise,

James :)

Sorry for the bump, I dont think a lot of you guys were around when I originaly posted.

If you're using WP there should be a plug-in. I use Akismet and JetPack and that sufficiently filters the spam.

Well, if you are using a simple captcha, perhaps you can try using Google Recaptcha instead, and set the security to a couple of notch higher, and that will surely put a stop/deter spammers, or at least deter them from completing too many captchas prior to being able to create an account or to even submit a link. Imagine having to complete 5-6 image captchas - it would definitely frustrate myself in the process.
Or you can install a plugin to nofollow all those outgoing links, or to moderate new accounts, prior to being able to submit a post on your site.

Thanks guys. i dont want to loose new members. I know Google re captcha is good, but very frustrating for new users. I am more looking for a solution based around not allowing members to be able to post links until they have x number of posts.

Thanks for your ideas guys and hope you are having a good holiday season.

James :)

have you tried the "invisible recaptcha"? the user don't need to do anything, not even a click, if google deem the user not an abuser.... i find that being the least amount of friction. there's 2 or 3 plugins for WP by now...

If you're using Akismet you can set it so people cannot post 1/2/3 links/they get automatically flagged for review.

I guess Akismet. The spamming is quite the problem, I know. I once had to just delete the whole forum basically, because the bots had showed up within 1 day and completely destroyed the forum with spam.

I have a registration bot problem too there's only one plugin that worked for me but it interferes with other plugins

I use a WP plugin called CleanTalk. You can find it in the WP plugins. It is paid but there is a free trial available. I found that they have a large database of spammer's email IDs and they simply don't allow these to be registered. After installing it I have zero spam accounts.

You can hire a WP plugin creator cheap on fiverr or freelancer & he will do it. It's like $20 to $30 job.
