WP Multisite Problem

OK, so I have followed the WP codex to the letter and set up a Multisite. Wildcard subdomaining is enabled at my host by default. I have it set to Subdirectory blog creation as opposed to subdomain blog creation. Under subdomain blog creation it just would NOT function, I would just be sent to a 404 page at my host. After setting multisite to create new blogs as subdirectories of my site, the blogs are created but the themes are not installed and there is no backend. All that exists is a bare HTML template with a hello world post. No decoration, no images, no CSS, just bare html.

What could I be doing wrong? I've checked the htaccess and wp-config files and they are letter for letter the same as on the WP codex.

Any help woiuld be much appreciated.

    Cheers :)

    Hi,

Try creating a subdomain manually, ie test.mydomain.com

Then create a mu site with the same subdomain and see if that works. If it does then check again for wildcard support.

    Edit: re-read your post !!

Tried it, but I got a permission denied error. ie "You do not have permission to access '/' on this server.

I don't know much about subdomains but I had some issues with setting up wildcard subs. I put the domain on its own IP and my problems went away. Not sure if that will solve your issue but you might do the same.

    Hi,

I would, but the problem is it's all in German as I have a German ISP due to the fact that I live there and my bank card is not accepted worldwide. I've shot them a mail and am waiting to hear back from the. I have a feeling it's something to do with their http.conf. I'll wait and see.

Thanks to all for your replies.

    i had the same issue.

you need to create one subdomain manually in your cpanel. give * as new subdomain name and keep directory as the same which u are using for your main domain.

also keep in mind to press update button after you create subdomain under network - admin panel.

    this will sole the issue.
