Is there a better way to install WP than using Fantastico? I noticed on another thread that "Public" was not the default of a Fantastico WP install causing the blog not to be indexed.

I've been looking into WP Manager DX, WP Robot, and others. Maybe one of those are able to select "Public" for all installs.

Also, what's the best way to install and manage your WP blogs? It would be nice to have one interface to be able to select which blog to open for editing, adding plugings, comments, etc..

A few blogs should be easy to manage but 1,000 could be difficult.

im not sure if this will work, but what about copy and pasting the wp stuff into that domains root folder via filezilla from a wp blog u already own?

This is what I do. I have a folder on my desktop that i click on and it uploads all the files to the root. Then I set up the data base and do the rest of the install.

doesnt take much time if your upload speed is good. I use winscp as my ftp manager

Use filezilla.

Or the best way is to use a custom program that uploads the files and changes permissions on the required files (for me is htaccess, sitemap.xml), then logs in and does the main setup / plugin activation for you.

Thanks for all your replies. I was looking for more of a editor/manager like WP Manager DX or WP Robot, but maybe I don't understand what I need.

I already use FileZilla for most uploading but I'd like to get something that is all inclusive within one program for WP where it will login to my website, install WP, install databases, be able to make changes to defaults, add pages, edit page text, edit meta tages, h1,2,3 tags, add plugins, and add posts and comments across all selected domains/blogs, etc..

Yes, I've been looking for something simlar. I think I might try the tools at http://www.mass-automation.com/products/ and see if used together would accomplish this.

I emailed them to see if they had a working demo that shows the tools working together and they indicated their working on getting one up.

With a web hosting reseller account, you could add the wordpress install files and folders to the skeleton directory, then each time a domain was added, those files would be there automatically. You would then create a database and run the install

I use wordpress mass installer .com, it works on public hosts, I installed and activated 150 blogs in one day, with all the right plugins, different themes, adsense, affiliate ads and everything.
And it allows you to mass post, mass add blogroll links as well. And since I get all my content written for free from my other company, I just upload a zip of the latest articles to the software, it unpacks it and installs each article to the next blog in your list.
