What do you guys think about it? I’ve never mistook WPEngine for Wordpress to be honest. I understand they’re a hosting provider.
I’m assuming that Wordpress just wants WPEngine to contribute to the Wordpress project more, seeing as they benefit from it in their business, and WPEngine said no. Now Wordpress/automatic are pissed.

I’m not a fan of WP Engine, but Matt’s behavior is childish. He seems jealous that WP Engine has similar revenue to Automattic with far fewer customers. Also, he's getting downvoted on Reddit lmao https://www.reddit.com/user/photomatt/

Someone should build a site called wpenginesupport. If they can use wp, you can use wp engine I assume? And just have a live chat that says connecting in 2 mins to agent please wait, and then it connects to agent and says, please confirm this validation (CPA campaign) lol

It’s unfortunate to see such legal disputes within the WordPress community, especially between prominent companies like WP Engine and Automattic. The cease-and-desist letter from WP Engine indicates serious concerns over the allegations of misinformation..

Yes, those are strong words.
I haven't used WPEngine for years, last time I remember it was for some freelance gig where the client had site hosted there.
I can't say what both these are up to here but from a marketer's point of view it's good PR for both.
I just wish things get sorted out in a way that the entire ecosystem around WordPress doesn't get affected.
IMHO this seems like an attempted rug pulling now that ‘WP’ (am I allowed to say that word anymore? 
) has become a household name in everything website and php related thanks to a great extent to all the hard working devs that helped build up their market place over the years.

That’s crazy. So they're basically shutting down WP Engine by doing that aren’t they?
I wonder how wp engine will respond. I assume they’ll have to back down and make some sort of financial contribution to Wordpress, or they’ll have to head towards their own cms, or an alternative cms.
It doesn’t seem like a good move from Wordpress, as soon as you single out and attack someone it seems like a loss of composure to me and I feel like if you put too much pressure on your peers then you eventually make it appealing to seek other platforms (even though Wordpress are currently way ahead of every other option).
