It actually looks far worse than it tastes.
It's sold warm (as in, warmer than 'room temp') and it's quite salty. If you're rather drunk, it's actually quite a good snack, as long as you don't look at it while you eat it.
And, that picture is misleading - you don't fold it out like that before you eat it; you eat it straight from the shell, so it's more like a round little blob. Best not to chew it, either. Just straight down the hatch.

And what it is. There are some things I at least can't eat. Anyone tried plara in Thailand ? Mostly used as sort of a condiment. But why on earth would you eat 6 month old rotten fish.
Here they have something similar - bagoong. Yarks.
My wife likes Tuyo - small dried fish. That I eat but while she fries it up i close all doors, windows and crank up the AC to max. Stinks like no tomorrow while being fried but tastes rather good.
Bicol Express - one of my favorites. As long as they don't put brine shrimp in it.

I lived their for 5 years....I wouldn't live their again. The milking begins at the airport and right up until you get on the plane they'll try and get money from you. Unless you're a mayor from Mindanao in which case they'll just assasinate you with Uzis right at the airport..but I digress.
This "The most friendliest people in the world" thing is a complete myth. In my experience, Thailand was much better. In fact, I could name more than a few countries I've felt more at ease in. Unless money is involved, nobody cares and nobody will lift a finger to help you...The Philippines you see from your hotel room and at the mall is completely different to the one that you'll experience living there and god forbid trying to run a business with western standards.
Don't get me wrong, on the whole it's a beautiful country the islands are great to visit. Bohol, Bantayan, Siragao and Cebu are great. Borocay for the sand and sunset but it's overrated. I really hope the Philippines improves in the future, because the people deserve better.

Im from Denmark or originally its The Faroe Islands but i dont think many know it
I have lived in Denmark for 23 years and i love it, but omg i would love to have a house in the philippines, i just love the country so much

its not that good, but not that bad either, its more like an experience, i ate the fried version, it tasted kinda like rubber

Had a friend that went to Philippines for 6 months. He said he will never go back, he couldn't stand the non-stop rain that lasted for months.
Bad timing on his part coming during the rainy season
They say it's 3 seasons here. Hot, cold and rainy season. I think they lied. It's either hot or rainy and hot. Unless you consider 20+ degrees centigrade cold, of course.

I went in the rainy season but it was ok even it rain 2 days non stop.
