Wow, how is this local roofing site ranking so well?

So I recently had some competition come out of nowhere and I'm not sure what they are doing. Their main URL is ranking extremely well and what most confuses me is how well their blog posts rank with only 21 backlinks.

DA went from 8 to 51 in a month on that page. My only guess is a massive amount of PBN links. But it would be strange they are pointing the PBN links to a blog post..

What can you gather as to why they are ranking so well?

It isn't that strange to point PBN links to a blog post that they made informational and people found useful? The outbound links from that post are to some authoritative sites as well as internally to pages they want to rank. Internal link juice siloing can be effective.

Don't see that 51 DA

They did some local citations and registered in some coupon sites. Nothing outstanding.

Do you mean PA? DA is a domain metric.

They were obviously favored by the update, that's the biggest reason.

PBN links to that post are a possibility. This update seems to have given a lot of points to PBNs.

Are they a local competitor? If so, there's a lot more to local SEO than backlinks.

I don't know where you're getting your metrics from - but they aren't correct.

Regardless of that, someone is definitely working to increase the number of links to that website. Wayback machine also tells me some on-page SEO and improvements to the site structure have taken place - the blog is just a part of this process.

I'm not 100% on what you want to achieve by making all this public though? Would you like your own site to be publicly mentioned on a black hat forum?

IMHO there's not much to see here, just good old fashioned SEO for a mom and pop type business.

What so surprising? I am ranking my website with auto-approve blog comments.

They did local citations for their blog post? I was looking at Ahrefs and it wasnt picking up all those links. Maybe they are blocking the bots.

I'll solve the puzzle with one word! Reviews. When I figured it was local, I knew that answer without looking but had to look to confirm.

Reviews don't help that much for ranking. I know that because there's people ranking on top spots with no reviews at all. Some with just 1-2.

It has to do with the strength of the brand in the local market. Lots of backlnks and/or citations from local websites could be the reason.

Quality backlinks and on-page optimization. Do competitor analysis including backlinks, technical and site health.
