Would you target this KW?

I have this regular KW (Not a buying kw) that gets 50K searches a month. I am positive I can rank #1 with some time but the problem is: I have a Adsense site made for it but the CPC is 33 cents. The only reason I would target it is because it gets 50K searches a day.

Should I dump it because it makes less than $1 per click or should I continue with it?

Why not give it a shot? Domains are cheap and what have you really got to loose? It could prove to make you some coin. If you don't try then you have already lost....

You're not gonna have anywhere close to an 18% CTR on your ads (the link you are referring to talks about website CTR, adsense CTR is a whole different ball game, but if you can take a first page spot and make $ always worth it. It's only getting harder to grab good rankings so get them and hang on to them.

Never seen someone do such math. Wonder how accurate it is because $200/month doesn't sound bad at all.
 
OK dont just go throw cuz it aint make that much money on adsense. There must be different ways to monetize it. Think BIG

Well, I know it is not a buying KW and there are no products for it. I can do CPA but the only problem I have with that is I do not know of any content lockers that are free and worthwhile.

I would bet that any "%" shown based on the #1 position is also going to have a lot to do about the ad itself (Title, call to action, description, etc., etc.,), so take that number w/a grain of salt!
 
Hi, i think that 50K searches a month compensates the low cost per click, especially if you can rank top 3 positions, go for it.
 
the 18% is an average - so if your ranking #1 for a search term, you should expect 18% of searchers to click on your link. if you are getting less, you need to change up your title/meta description.

the 7% is a number i made up - but is very achievable based on your niche and layout. You should adjust the number accordingly (e.g. techy people = decrease, people looking for info = increase, ad-centered theme = increase)

I recommend checking out all the long tails for this keyword as well. If they are easy to rank, do it up.

there are so many networks that has a content locker. I currently make over $3000/month with just CPA and is not even a Buying kwrd. beside that i get tons of laser targeted traffic which bside cpa, im also monetizing with infolinks and related products from clickbank.

Open your mind!
 
I've found that the CPC can be quite misleading. I have 2 sites that both have a listed CPC of $0.10 and today alone they each had a $1.00 click.
 
you would be suprised. There is almost always SOMETHING that the people would be willing to buy. You could try just throwing some affiliate ads up and changing them now and then see what happens. You want to monetize in any and every way possible. Peace

I totally agree with beeHWfan, you don't have to use just adsense to monetize this traffic, there are tons of ways, lead capture, affiliate offers, pop-under, pop-over, exit splash etc Just be creative in how you can turn your visitors into long term prospects and then find more lucrative ways to convert them to cash....
 
Would you guys say CPA works with just about any niche? Or is CPA more for niches where users want to see or read something (For example, such as the death video of Amy Winehouse which doesnt exist).

from my experience #1 position will get you 40-60% CTR. I never
heard about 18% average, seems too low for me

...dont forget; when you rank for this KW as Nr.1 you will rank for many other long tail keyword combos, (and in my experience often long tail searchesadd up to more than the initially targeted kw)
 
It would depend on if it costs me a bunch of money to rank it, but 50k per month is nothing to sneeze at even if it's not a buying KW. If you can afford the ranking efforts, do it man! Report back and let us know what happened.

Well usually when you are on the first page the CTR is not more than 40% for sure and that's the hard line.
