Would you pay for this?

A good buddy of mine is a skilled researcher and writer, I've got him to write for me before and and it's always high quality (better than the cheap writing you can get on here even though that is often good for the price). The content usually includes authority sources, facts and figures. I've used some as blogs and then extracted some details for an info graphic.

I'm interested to know if any BHW brothers and sisters would consider paying £15 ($18) per hour for this service?

Writers charge per hour by figuring out how much one hour equates to word count in an article.

So if I charge $50 for a 500 word article, and it takes me an hour to do it, that's 10 cents a word.

If I have to do 10 of these, it will take me 10 hours and I'll charge $500, which is $50 an hour.

Figure out how much he should charge per word, or per project. That goes over better than charging someone hourly.

I agree with alwaysinvisible. I hire writers at least 3 times a week, and I always hire for total project costs. I don't do hourly because I need to know exactly what I am going to pay.

When charging hourly for writing, I don't know if you are going to take your time to get more done, and I would have no proof that it really did take you that long.

I agree with guys above me, paying at hour basis is bullshit. Pay for the work, not for the time. So it really depends on how many articles/ words he is able to write.

Sadly people who charge by the hour can be tempted to take their time on a job, so what could be done in 2 hours they stretch out to 3 hours etc.
Writing ( and also design work ) is different to someone doing a rewire job on a house or painting a room, but it's always better to pay fixed price.

A few months back I wanted a couple of ( small, 5 page ) sites moving and updating onto a new theme, quotes ranged from 30 minutes per site to 4 hours.

Definitely better to charge by the word : transparency = trust. I'm in the translation industry and it works the same, people want to know exactly what they're going to be charged.
If your friend isn't too slow at work, $18/hour should convert into a very reasonable per word rate. I'll be looking forward to his service.
