If you had strong homepage links with correct anchor text from established sites that were in a completely different niche, would you still expect movement?

I would personally would say yes but I'd like to see what others think

Edit: I haven't built these links yet but its something I'm considering

Yup.

You can always connect niches together.

10beast mostly got links from marketing blogs to help it rank in the later half of it's journey.

You can get a testimonial link, or article can connect to your niche.

Make it natural so that it's good for future too, as far as link power goes. You will get that
