I'm really new to link building so apologies if this is stupid.
I messaged this site that's probably on the top 5 of my niche if I could buy a link from him. He said he likes the my contents and agreed to my request but it will be a no follow link with a price.
This site is an authority in my niche with published books and stuff. Their content is really really good. They are probably my most used reference when writing my contents.
Do you think its worth it to pay for a link like this? Is it useless in terms of SEO?
That really depends...
The factors that I would take into consideration are:
How much traffic does his site get?
What page would the link be on ? Would it remain in a static place? or is it part of a blogroll that will ultimately go into obscurity as he creates more content?
How much traffic does the page your link will be on get?
How much of the traffic that comes to that page is ORGANIC?
What type of link will it be? (contextual, author bio, sidebar, footer, nav bar, profile, resource page, citations / sources, a section marked "sponsored" "partner links" or anything that remotely implies paid or in exchange for something/ non-editorially given
and how will the link appear? (where on the page, what text will be surrounding it, is it placed in a way that would encourage people to click on it without asking them to click on it?
If the answers to the above questions are satisfactory, go for it. If it's just for extra traffic, if it's an evergreen topic and you are confident it will give you a little bit of traffic every day for the life of the page your link is on, and the price is worth it to you go for it
If this is one of your first MAJOR influencer links, maybe go for it, becasue if one links to you it's easier to get another to link to you
Google has become ambiguous about how they treat no-follows, going from "not counting it" to taking it "as a hint" that can "sometimes influence rankings and sometimes not" and "won't hurt your rankings, might potentially be considered to bolster your rankings but might be disregarded" (mealey mouthed crap) - so ultimately it's up to you...
Me personally, if it's a good authority site and tons of traffic and the link is $50 or less as a permanent link, if I thought I would benefit from that I would go for it.. I f theuy're asking hundreds or more and/or it's in a constantly changing location or somewhere it'll never be seen, screw that....
THat's just me though
