A magazine in my industry quoted me on an article (which was also posted online) after talking with them for a few weeks. They didn't put my company name in as a backlink though.

Should I ask them and what would be a good way to do that?

    Thanks

If you already asked them politely and it didn't work, there's nothing much you can do..

I never mentioned backlink to them but I think I'll mention it to the writer soon.

What was the topic of your conversation (for weeks) with them? Climate change? War in Syria?

If they mention your company name then it is still enough. There is no any issue in asking them any question. They will either accept or reject :)

Nah. What I mean is it took the article a while to come out but we really had one conversation and a few emails.

Just ask. Worst they can say is no. It's no big loss if they do.

Just ask, although I wouldn't use "SEO speech" if the article wasn't related to SEO. Don't talk about a backlink, maybe ask if they could connect your company name in the article to your website, so interested readers or journalists can contact you for additional information. This way it sounds a little more like additional value for their readers, instead of just "I want rank, gimme link".

Make a simple request if they receive that's enough. If not, don't go anymore.

Thanks, that sounds like a good way to approach it. They mention my brand name but it doesn't link to me. I can probably ask something like- "Can you put my link by my brand name in case anyone wants to contact us".

Maybe something along the line of ... Hi Name, Regarding the ArticleName that you quoted me. I've noticed there's no link to my Company for your online version. Can you help me out and link my company to that article? It would mean a lot to me.

Then if they say no, ask how come, then tell them that they used your time and help them with their content - it will be a good business relationship with them if they return the gratitude and simply put a link for their online version.

If they still refuse, then tell them thanks for the time, and you will be available for what ever services you provide. So just keep promoting yourself, and get your company in their mind, but don't be hard on that issue. At least you know why they didn't link you.

Let me know how you go. Just ask nicely I recken.

Personally, I wouldn't give them a reason. You can word it in such a way that it sounds mandatory and official: "We request that a backlink to our brand is provided", or just tell them informally that you would appreciate the reference. They don't need to know about who's going to be contacting you, or why SEO is important, etc.

Ask them how much money they want to put the backlink.

I don't think they will put your company name with backlink in their magazine. They have put your company name is enough.

There are many other ways to put backlink . Do not be too dependent on it .

Yeah I'm doing outreach on plenty more sites so whether I get this link or not isn't really a big deal, but I do think it helps to add as many quality links as possible pointing to my site.

So I ended up asking them for a link similar to like you said and they ended up hooking it up. Good deal.
