So I have a band and I am looking to post some videos on youtube soon.. and I just had an idea on how to help advertise. There are websites from where you can send text messages for free. Now, could I possibly use this, with proxies, to advertise?

For example, if I made a professional looking text message making it look like it came from some reliable company (maybe even make them think it's from mtv or something), and sent it to a bunch of people once (and once only) do you think it would help get people to watch my video?

Where are you getting your phone numbers to send them to?

well can't i just lookup area codes, then send a shitload out so that it hits alot of people. If I can send 100 000 a day, i might hit some small number like 2000 people but thats still pretty decent. If I found a list it would be way more efficient tho.

but i think you should go advertise in local news or magazine first.. cos i think that small investment you make, and it work.. ( for me ) .. or make a deal with some phone provider in your country and make some kind of premium sms code and advertise it on local media...

    just my 2 c

Spamming SMS would probably piss off enough people that they would flag your video.
