Ok had a few beers the other night and started thinking (yeah thats what it takes these days). I wont try this cause i think its lowdown and dirty but ..hey thats just me.

I love a magazine called viz - you probably havent heard of it but it has this 'Top Tips' section which is basically stupid ideas thought up for a laff. One of them was get a 'hows my driving ... call this number' and so on and then it lists a premium rate number. Then you drive around town like a complete tw@t so people call the number cause theyre angry at you and you get paid!!

Anyway its a twist on that .. set up a legit looking website for company xxx say bobssupplies.com and on the front page put a contact us form where they enter their e-mail address - you can be creative - but this is basically an iframed e-mail submit field (sorry if this isnt possible just brainstorming here).

Then the good bit, go to every fan forum, right wing christian forums, liberal do gooder place you can think of register and then start abusing the members, being obnoxious like Michael Jackson was a .... well you can be creative again. Put the link to the website bobsupplies in your sig and wait for people to come complaining to your employer wanting you sacked, hung drawn and quartered. (Folks love to complain and the more devoted they are to something the more extreme their reaction is) They leave their email address and ..bingo you get a sign up.

If its a crap idea just say, I wont be offended and I'm not doing it myself but i've had a blast reading these forums and want to share some ideas, worthwhile or not.

What a bright idea, I love it! After a hard day at work, there's nothing better than making people angry with funny stuff and be paid for it!

A general rule is that something you aren't going to try is guaranteed to not produce results... that being said, controversy is a great way to get attention and reaction, as long as you aren't so obvious about it. If you sound legit and not just someone trying to get a rise out of someone to get them to do something for you, it'll probably have some success.

I wonder where you get this premium number and much you get paid ;>?

You should never underestimate the stupidity of people. I'm pretty sure that is how a lot of us make our money ;-).

Not meaning to hijack your thread but you reminded me of an idea I had when I was a messenger.
I never did it myself but I told someone about this idea and he did made money.. probably got a few receptionists sacked
Get a premium number then get a job as a cycle messenger so you now look like a messenger.
Go to a big building with lots of corporations, walk up to the first floor, walk into reception, ask for package going to yzb, contact name john.
They'll ask for an extension number, you beg to use their phone as your batteries are flat and need to phone your people.
Then phone the premium number and keep it as long as you can then say you get the wrong floor, hang up and walk one floor up, walk into some other reception, repeat.
Nowadays their phone might be all premium number blocked but I thought I'd let it out there.

@bigjoe - yeah I like it - we had one in the uk that was basically the same - set up number - young couple car breaks down, cellphone dead, go to nearest house and ask to use their phone, call the number then leave the receiver just off the hook..move down the road and do it again.

Its funny to see how BH techniques have been around a lot longer than the internet !

@voidale.. it used to be that anyone could apply to BT (in the uk) for a premium rate number. It was meant for things like customer service and was usually 0845 etc. They charged 35p/min and you got 9-15p/min. I dont know if they are still available though.
