Ok. I have had this idea in my head for a while, and I'm just curious if you guys think it would work.

Well my idea is basically to make a raffle website. It would cost 1-5 dollars to enter the raffle (depending on the prize). I would offer very popular prizes such as graphics cards and computers and stuff. The whole idea is to get enough people to enter the raffle, that I make a profit.

Would this work?

yes it can work, or a better idea would be for them to complete a free cpa offer so there is no cost involved, that would get more people interested and you can make a profit!

In the US, that would be considered a lottery and would be illegal unless you are a non profit.

Make sure it is legal!

Then you need massive promotion for it.. news site and TV and radio etc will make it seem more legit (despite the price).

Not as easy as just throwing up a site and then it's done and you earn loads of cash.

Ok, i have a better idea then.

I will do what was suggested.. and offer free entries in exchange for cpa.

Then' ill just INCLUDE a donation section..and if anybody is willing to donate, they will get 5 free entries or something.

on top of all that i'll be able to create a email list by having them sign up for my newsletter and everything..

can someone help me get this off the ground?maybe someone can guide me through my first successful idea

I have considered doing this but you need massive start up money for promotion and lots of people are not trusting that you will actually get the prize. Think of it like those free ipod sites where you have to do offers to get the free ipod.

you think millions havent thought of this before?

it's not legal.

i will host everything on an offshore server..

how is it not legal? I'm taking a donation, and then putting their name is a raffle.

because there are states laws that only allow charitable raffles.. and the states that allow raffles require you to have a license (it's considered gambling)
and hosting offshore won't do anything.

In the United States laws regarding raffles are decided upon by state governments just as other types of games of chance.
In the United States raffle laws vary considerably by state. Some states define charitable raffles as equal to lotteries and therefore have deemed them illegal. Other states allow raffles for charities but do not have lotteries.

ok, well what if i actually do have a charitable raffle and give all the money to a charity?

I'll make my money of off ads, and private donations.

even charities can take an administration fee from what they raise. i could see you being able to take some money out of what everyone submits as long as you don't do it secretly and you tell them your intentions to do so.
