Hi, I was thinking of buying expired domains to use them for cold email.

Would this allow me to send emails from day one without warmup?

If that domain has the history of mailing then yes. If not you have to warmup for at least 3 to 7 days.

Common knowledge is to warm up for 14 days; do you have experience with 3 - 7 days warm up? And what volume are we talking about?

I would suggest you save that money and spend a little bit more time on new domains and warm up for a few month.

Cold email: emailing a person who never ever heard of you before

Hot email: an email that turns you on.

on a serious not, It's usually called opt in emails, which you email a person who signed up or opt in to your email list or interacted and give permission to email them beforehand.

Better not to risk it
Since that domains could be associated with spam marketing so you will land in spam from day one
 
You don't need a warmup if the expired domain has been used for
emailing already. Otherwise, a warmup will be necessary.
