I'm thinking about building a lot of web 2.0 sites. I would then repost the same content on them as what's on my site. I currently do this on social media. The goal is to get traffic without worrying about search engines. Do the web 2.0 sites themselves have enough traffic to make this worth while? I would like to do this on a large scale, but I'm afraid that I'd be wasting my time. I just want to expose new readers to my content.
Would this web 2.0 strategy work?

You should be worried about Getting Web 2.0 Indexed at first place. Same Content not Recommended.
Building Web 2.0 For Acquiring Visitors on your main site is not Worth it. Try Ranking your Posts, May Take lot of time and Testing but totally worth it.
I'm not concerned with getting search engine traffic. I'm more concerned about getting traffic from the sites themselves. For example if it's possible to get traffic from WordPress or Weebly or wherever. I'm wondering if these sites themselves have any traffic that can be tapped into.

Realistically, you'd have to build a following first in order to get any traffic from them. Which means you're treating the Web 2.0 as a money site. I don't think you can really take a set-it-and-forget-it approach, at least in the early stages.

I do something like this with my news site, we "syndicate" out to multiple web 2.0 platforms, usually with 300-400 words of the story shared, then a link back to our main site. We focus on the web 2.0s where we can build a following and/or people get notifications of new stories posted.
My strategy is:
Story 1,2,3 get posted on money site.
Story 1 goes to tumblr
Story 2 goes to wordpress
Story 3 goes to blogspot
Daily, I will also fully post 4 articles exclusively to each web 2.0(may be same story across web 2.0s, but NOT something on my money site).
If you go this route, no how to build followers, hashtags, keywords, how ever each site categorizes and promote within relevant areas only!
You can build a following IF you execute this right and with the right scripts it becomes automated.

How many web 2.0 sites do you do this for? I don't have the time or resources to make unique content for the web 2.0 sites. I'd like to use this method as a means of exposing more people to my content. Do you see quite a bit of traffic from doing the method that you described?

Try to cultivate a list of do follow web 2.0 sites and post articles to them consistently month after month. It will help you rank your websites post and you can build a second tier to the new 2.0 pages. Do not use the same content.

Don't use same content for multiple sites. If you use same content for multiple sites it will considered it as spam. Your content should be unique particularly in tier 1 links. Because your "content is king".

Spin the original content. Post it to Tier 1 sites. Post tier 1 links to social media like Twitter and Facebook. I started using Instagram few months back and it has great traffic pulling power. Social media engagement is only way to direct traffic if you are not interested in search engines.
