Would a tech tutorials site make any money? I'm thinking at starting one but the audience probably will have add block to smart for affiliates.

Does anyone have any experience on this?

Well, askthebuilder immediately came to mind (as I read a reference to them yesterday). Though I've never been to the site, I would think it is along the same lines, and they've made a lot of money via adsense.

You could create a membership site where a few tutorials are offered freely to members that sign up. But hide the more technical and advanced tutorials behind a paid membership section.

It all depends on how much content and of cause the quality of the content your are providing and whether there is a large need for such information.

I'm just saying, anything informational, tutorial, answers people's questions, etc., it can make money.
I mean if you do a half ass job, it'll be harder to make money.
But if you put together something amazing, word of mouth alone will get you links and visitors. But if you're doing something that has been done, you better make it better and answer a problem the competitor creates. On top of that, if it is done, you're probably years behind, and thousands of content pages behind, so you better ask yourself how bad do you want it.

If you're going for tutorial-type Adsense sites, here's a nice tip (thanks Syzygy!): don't answer the question for the reader. :D In my experience this has increased ad clicks by a TON.

But yes, anything can make money. It's important to note however that more tech-oriented people are less likely to click on ads though.

It is going to be a long slog to get good rankings in all likelihood. Not saying you shouldn't go for it, there is definitely money in this area, but you need to go into it realizing this isnt going to be like building a MNS in a low comp niche and having it ranking almost immediately. There are already some really well established tech sites that are geared towards the same niche.

I know that I spend a lot of time trying to find decent information on tech related stuff. I am not naturally inclined for this type of thing, and I imagine there are a TON of people out there like myself.

Just make sure your content is great, and work on your SEO (on page and off). With enough work, you will be amazed at what you can accomplish :)

I have a 40 page computer how to/repair site that makes $75 a month in adsense and another $100 or so in affiliate sales, so yes, it will. If I were to re do it I would not be so general a site theme.

I would do best if it were about a brand or style of device, say a ipad site, an android pad site, an galaxy phone site, etc.

Actuelly everyone thinks this is true but I have found it not to be the case. In my experience, when my visitor comes to my site they get a morsel of information that satisfies part of their quest for information, but seldom will my brilliant research and prose actually give them everything or exactly what they are looking for.

What I see on my adsense sites is that the visitor will read your information, and still seeking more information click on an ad if it is relevant to their search.

You must make sure (can't stress this enough) your on page SEO is spot on though, or the ads will not reflect what the user is searching for. The page must be very focused, and between 700 to 1000 words max, and the ad block dead center the page for (in my case) best results.

Tutorials are for learners and they like to explore different things. Related ads will increase their curiosity and will attract them so I'd say the opposite :)
