I feel like my niche is going to explode anytime now and I have figured out how I can monetize it a bit but I am curious how Amazon Affiliation works. I would be selling a product that doesn't have too many option to buy for and I am trying to figure out if it would be better to sell through Amazon or maybe just contact the companies directly and see if they would be ok with giving me some type of affiliation link with them. Do big companies do this and would it even be worth commission wise if I worked for the company directly or through Amazon?
Edit: I should add that I will be driving most of my business from Youtube and other social media platforms.

Why not sell it on Ebay, and see how well sells, and then you can explore other options?

The Amazon Affiliate program is great. However, you will generally need your own website with legitimate content in order to be accepted into the Affiliate program. You can't use social media to be accepted, and social media guidelines are a little vague in the Amazon Affiliate TOS. You get around 1-5% commission on most sales, just depending on the category of the item.
