Would Google consider this to be duplicate content?

Still trying to wrap my head around Google and duplicate content. Okay, here is my example. Let's say I write an article about "Where to buy the best red car".

I like the article because it has the logic and thought sequence that I want my reader to follow. Because of that, I decide to use that same exact content to create other articles for many other different colored cars.

So I create articles/page like:
Where to buy the best blue car
Where to buy the best pink car
Where to buy the best purple car
and so on and so on...

So my question is, can I do this or would Google hit me for duplicate content?

Maybe not by algo but a manual reviewer would hit you with duplicate content most probably.

there isn't a major difference between a blue car and a red car (is not like the difference between two car brands, or two different car categories), so you'll be risking a bit.

Imo, have different articles on "where to buy the best used Audi" or "where to buy the best used BMW" has a bigger differentiating factor then the car's color.

If I were you I wouldn't even stress about writing these articles.

Thanks for your input and you are right, I used a poor example. If we use your example and I created multiple pages with the same article but different car names. Would Google have a problem with that?

Or let's just say I created a site on football trading cards, and used the same content to create articles on:
How to buy a mint condition Tom Brady card.
How to buy a mint condition Peyton Manning card.
etc...
Do you think Google would consider them duplicate content and effect my rankings?

The answer is quite easy here - what Google cares about in this case is that your content is genuine, useful to your visitors and, yes, unique. Ask yourself - do all these topics need individual articles written for each of them? Or are you just looking for a way to cheat Google and save time on writing original content?

Yes, each one would need an article written for them, so that people searching for them could find them via google results. But the content would be same, since the same information would be needed for each card.

In the trading card example, I would probably tell them the steps to determining if the card could be considered mint. Then point them to places (some affiliated, some not) that would probably have the card in stock. So the content would definitely be useful to someone looking for that specific card.

The end result is that no one can cheat Google, they stack the deck and control it. But, they have created a situation were I need to target articles based on peoples search habits. And honestly trying to find a thousand different ways to say "make sure the corner is not bent on the card" just so that I can be unique for Google, instead of focusing on passing along critical information to my audience, seems a bit crazy.

As for Google, they say a lot of things, but how much of it is truth? On the Black Hat side of the house, we find things that should not work on Google are actually still alive and kicking. Uniqueness may be a grey area depending on subject matter or niche.

I'm sure somebody has used articles that were similar. I'm wondering what their results were?

Write a long article and put all the keyword of diferent colors in it. If the article gain authority you will rank for all the colors too

I learned the hard way with duplicate content. You can make a lot of money with it in a short period of time then Google penalizes your site. It's simply a churn and burn project. If your project is long term, I'd suggest staying away from duplicate content.

One thing that you can do is create multiple blogs. So for example, if the articles were "Where to buy "insert color" car" - you can have one of these articles listed per each blog. While doing so, make sure to have a lot of other content on each blog so nothing stands out too much if being reviewed. In other words, make things look natural and you'll be fine.
