I've known a number of people who created a blog even though they have a full blown website. Does this make a big difference in how well your website performs?

If you have a static website at present then adding a blog can really increase your visitors.
For a start you will be continually adding fresh content which all the SEs like and appreciate.
Secondly it allows you to add articles that are optimised for not only your current target keywords but new related keywords to attract more traffic.
Thirdly it is a great way to build a relationshiop with your visitors and increase your authority.

Simple answer is - YES!

Additionally, a constantly updates blog would help in terms SEO.

Bk...

With a blog, you can connect directly with your visitor, also you can share any news, promotions, or your thought to your visitor, these are the more important.

than the more advantages of blogging is you have many words, pages, keywords, and description on your site.. (than static site) .. Sure, google will love this..

If its a high quality blog that offers a different perspective than your official site, like personal approach, it might create a community and attract a new type of costumers.

I would say so yes.

The biggest factor for me is for SEO.

2 reasons for that.

Each post gives your site an extra page and google does prefer larger sites.

Secondly google loves content and if you keep updating your blog google will keep coming back for more content. as long as it's good that is

Well, IMO it still depends on the nature of the business. For example, you don't see IT support business site doing any blogging, do you?

Yeah exactly. Creating blogs can increase the ratings too and your website will be well renowned too. I think this is one of a better way in order to make your work more appealing
