Howdy,

Long ago, one of my sites had a multiple-language option. Basically, some of my articles were translated to Spanish, French, Portuguese, Russian.

Recently some of those articles are starting to get some views.

I don't have too many of those, however, that are SEO-proofed.

In your experience, is it worth getting your articles published in multiple languages? Do you use a translator (a person) or just a free app?

Thanks for any feedback!

With google's ongoing effort to localize the content as much as possible, I think that having content in so many languages is not very advantageous and you'll be spreading yourself thin with your SEO.

I mean, if - for example - your target market was USA having content in both English and Spanish would make sense, so you should definitely try to capitalize on this by having 2 versions of your content (one in English and one in Spanish) on your site since these are the most widespread languages in USA. But Russian, French and Portuguese? I don't think you'll find many USA residents visiting your site in those languages...

And if you translated the content in all of these languages to try and rank in the other geolocations (Russia, France, etc) I think you'd struggle immensely because other (local) sites would outrank you in those countries, which would leave you with lots of orphaned / non-traffic'd pages which, in the end, would be bad for your site's rankings...

if you're using Wordpress there are multilanguage plugins that you can use, WPML is one of the best and does the translation for you automatically. But like I said, the question is: do you want to have content in so many languages and end up with "dead" pages that nobody visits because of your target location?

Personally, I think that multilanguage sites should be reserved to the multi-billion transnational companies' sites that operate globally, like Samsung, Nestle, etc. Those scumbags could benefit from their sites being multilingual, if all you have is a blog / affiliate / content site it's not worth the trouble IMO
