Worth getting a custom domain from blogger?

Hey BHW , this is my first newbie question thread :)

For the past year i have been making blogger blogs but only those newbie kinds that get deserted after a month . But like 2 months ago i found BHW and i learn a looot ( thnaks for that ) and so i started another blog on blogger but more seriously and i will do some SEO on it and already written some good articles that i didn't just slap them there .
My question is , is it worth getting a custom domain from blogger ? I know there are cheaper ones too but only a few $ difference which doesn't meter , plus iv hear those ones are easier for newbies to work with. And also if i have backlinks to my blogspot extension one if i buy a custom domain will i keep those backlinks ? :)

Definitely get your own domain (or a "custom" domain as you call it)!
 
mystersolver at setting in publishing you can choose to have a custom domain instead of the .blogger subdomain , and i guess thats 1 pro from kyle for custom domain :P What i need to know if it is better for a newbie like me to use blogger domain and if it is same as good as godaddy ,
Also if i buy a custom domain and remove the .blogger subdomain will i rank higher in google ?
Aaand most importantly if i get to keep my backlinks that i had on the subdomain :)
 
My friend told me that working on a blogger to start off can work. For a newbie such as myself I will go that route!
 
How many blogger sites do you see with high PR and on the first page?
 
dude, just spend the extra 3 a month and get cheap hosting. Well worth it.
 
Yeah true , i mostly find them in the google image search, but most curiously i wanna know if i keep my backlinks :P Not that i have 1 000's but i wanna know :)
 
I never heard of blogger selling domains, but lets assume they do - in such a case dont buy it. Once (not if) Google decides that he is done with you, everything you got from Google will disappear in a white puff of smoke.

Additionally dont buy from GoDaddy, that company is notorious for pushing you products you don't need. You'll want a domain only and end up with a loaded truck of dust collectors.

Best buy in your case is namecheap.com + blogger blogs harder to rank than their worpress alternative. If you want a free hosting to start with, go to byethost.com. When traffic goes up you can easily upgrade to paid hosting.
 
I started out with blogger too, it is definitely worth it to even get your own domain, helps a lot with ranking obviously. I still have one of my first blogger sites making a decent sum of money monthly, without having touched it since I made it. Note that you don't have to buy the domain name directly from them, you can buy it from namecheap too, or what ever registrar you prefer. (I mean, it's woth it if you're going mostly white-hat)

But, I'd also like to say, that in the future you should focus on hosting your own sites, wordpress especially is just so much better than blogger.
 
Well yes that is why i am asking about blogger hosting because i want to host my own site and not have a subdomain , also i learn thorwards black hat SEO , is that ok with namecheap ? and do any of you have experiance with it ? is it newbie friendly for someone who never "really' designed a site before ? Because blogger is simple :)

Black hat SEO has nothing to do with buying domain names. GoDaddy/Namecheap dont care what you do with your domain, as long as you don't abuse the international laws (such as sell drugs on your website).

Namecheap is much more friendly than GoDaddy, but still you will need to learn some.

Wordpress is simpler than blogger, you can count on that.
 
Uhum , and if i read right on the forum after you buy your domain YOU have to install wordpress on it right ? Im guessing thats simple and i can check youtube tutorials too :)

I got a blogger blog with no custom domain with 3 kws ranking in top 5 of a quite difficult education niche.

I got a blogger blog with a custom domain ranking 2 difficult terms in technology niche. :-)

they are at least two years old with minimum of 50 posts each.

one is pr1 and the other pr2 (with custom domain)

Also, blogger sells a domain through a domain seller partner which has similar price with godaddy. With my custom domain, I am using namecheap as it accepts unverified paypal accounts. :-)

One difficult task with blogger is that you need to tweak it a lot. Plus, most templates have a lot of hidden outbound links and you need to clean it up.

Not really that simple. :-)

First you need hosting - this is a place where all your files sit. Hosting company will provide you with an IP address, such as 84.78.278.32.

Now if you type http://84.78.278.32/ you will be taken to your new site (place where your files sit once again). There you can install anything you like, wordpress, joomla, bulletin board, etc.

Next you go to domain registar (namecheap/godaddy), you go there because you're not good with numbers like most of us and want to have a name for your website instead IP address.

You buy the domain name and point it to 84.78.278.32, after that step you can forget the numbers and start typing a domain name instead.
 
I think it depends on the niche, though I would definitely get my own domain. Many of the sites in one of my favorite niches are blogspot sites. Either with the blogspot.com ending or the person's own domain. I don't think it will hurt you since it's google's own site. I bought a domain name and hosted it free on Blogger. Got a free template off of btemplate and it looks really professional. I've already got traffic and some money is starting to trickle in. Heck I even found out that one blogspot blog I deserted and did absolutely nothing with earned me 4 bucks haha. I have no clue how that happened. I spent 2 hours on that blog total and promptly forgot about it. I deleted it too before I realized it made me money.

The point is I've done the wordpress thing and I think if you're a noob start out with your own domain on a blogger and integrate some adsense just to get a feel with it. Domains are cheap too.
 
I have a few .com's from godaddy that I transferred to blogspot.

Yes its well worth it to get a .com for them.
 
Get your own custom domain name.

Its 10 dollars a year for the domain and 3-4 for hosting.
 
Well finally i got a custom domain from namecheap and hosting at hostgator :) have my link all ready now im gonna start installing wordpress and such :) Thnaks you all for the help :P If you have any more newbie tips please share :P
