unfortunately this approach is time intensive. i have 20 or so blogs each with more than a thousand posts/entries

hmm... well then try do to it without a computer with a keyboard and mouse, and an internet connection.

Yep, and as you have 20 blogs, I guess manually entering phpmyadmin (or similar) to get them all from the databases will be even faster than scripting something to automate this. Less than half an hour and you're done
