Hi,

So, what's the right way to do and why?

Workout whole body everyday or split? How to split and why or why whole body everyday.

Pros and cons.

Thanks.

Im not into fitness but the logical answer to me would seem to be split. Why do your whole body half arsed everyday when you can really focus and grow a part each day. Seems more efficient to me, plus that's what everyone else does.

theres a million different places more appropriate to ask this question in and you chose to ask in a SEO related forum.

As for your question, full body is scientifically proven to be better in terms of results for beginners & intermediates as frequency is the most important factor, even above total volume.

If you work out often enough to ask that question, you should know the answer

Neither.

Push, pull, legs, rest.

Repeat this every 4 days.

Push (chest, tri, shoulders).
Pull (bi, back)
Legs

I usually incorporate core / abs 3x a week

Depends on your goals, but I would definitely split. However if you don't want to spend 4-5 days a week in the gym, I would go for full body once or twice a week to save time.

Ok thanks guys, I just did google search and found that full body is a better way and I agree with it aswell. I'm just starting with a 30+ % BF and I'm obese, I'm not fit at all to ask this question.

Thanks.

Well, I know this is a SEO forum.... If you want to be more serious about this, jump on the body building forums.

That aside, I am a personal trainer and here's my opinion based on what you asked. If you do full body, you'll get burnt out. The glycogen levels in your body, when lifting - will burn out, and you'll become extremely week if you do this full body idea (meaning you wont lift as heavy). I never understood when people tried this full body nonsense.. Never understood the bro split either (one day upper half, one day bottom half). I go to the gym 6 days a week, but if this is too much, go 3 days a week. If you go 3 days a week, just do push pull legs. By doing this, you'll be able to direct all your energy into 1 of 3 muscle groups. You wont feel burnt out, and have more energy to really break down those muscle groups (which in turn, makes them grow). Like I said; push (chest, shoulder, tris), pull (bis and back), and the 3rd day do legs.

Since you said you were obese and 30%, I would incorporate 30 minutes minimum of cardio every time you go to the gym (ONLY AFTER) you work out. It's important to use all your glycogen levels doing the lifts, and only then - do cardio. Some people make the mistake of doing it first, don't be that guy.

Also - eat clean (rice, chicken, fish, vegetables, etc). Eat 1gr/protein per lb of body weight to maintain muscle; 1.2/1.5 when cutting.

Hopefully this helped.

Soon we have the fitness subsection opening :D

It depends on your goals... Do you want to gain muscles? Do you want to burn fat? Do you want to maintain weight? Lose weight? Just to stay healthy?

I'm a football player and I'm doing upper buddy with my own weight every single day and I feel amazing and strong. Sometimes I do with very high weights but only for explosiveness and then 2 days rest for that body parts. Also, there are isometric workouts with bands that I do once a week and there are only lower body included so It really depends on your needs.

What is your goal? I might help you :)

It actually wouldn't be that bad of an idea, seeing as IMers spend a lot of time in front of the computer. A fitness section under Lounge would be kind of cool.

Starting strength is the only way bro.

The optimal way to increase testosterone (therefore making your workouts more effective) is to activate as many muscle fibers as possible in the shortest amount of time - preferably under an hour. That's why the squat, bench, deadlift, press, and rows should be your bread and butter. Full body with lots of rest for recovery is great for beginners - you don't have to do a split until you've plateau'd on your strength gains.

And you should look to gain strength first before aesthetics. It will strengthen your ligaments/tendons which will prevent you from tearing them if you do eventually switch to a split which focuses on more volume with higher reps. Fatigued muscles are what cause tears, not necessarily heavy weights.

Of course, you gotta diet right on your off days since you're building the muscle outside of the gym - not in it. The gym is when you tear down the house and the kitchen is where you start rebuilding it into something nice.

So, in conclusion, I still think full body like starting strength is a great way to go and I've used it three times now after injury (unrelated to lifting) to get back to where I am now!

I started the whole body workout; I am getting better results. I think If you go for whole body workout, your muscles response better.

Split!!

If you only go two or three times a week you can get away with whole body. If you are going 5 or more times per week split it up so the muscles can rest and repair.

This is a good description of splitting up your workouts. When I was a gym rat, I split it down even farther. I would isolate arms, shoulders, back, legs, and chest. I would work two related groups per day, morning and evening. Core was once or twice a week, if you are lifting HEAVY your core will build up from handling the weights. Use free weights, not machines.
