I was fine yesterday until I took my mom to a clinic to get treated. Turns out she had an ear infection and a sinus infection. They gave her 4 prescriptions. I got my blood drawn and then we went home.

This morning I woke up and I felt like I got hit by a train.

I couldn't even talk. I drank some peppermint tea with honey and threw up. I'm congested, I'm so exhausted and my stomach hates me.

Despite this I tried my best to keep working.

I did a little bit of content but it took me hours. I just started on another article someone ordered today and I really want to go to bed but I want to get this work done too. I know my health is more important but I just feel like I have to push through this. I can't just rest. I think once I'm done with it I'll give myself permission to rest, but because I'm not at my best mentally and physically I'm not able to give this article my best. That's why I'm here, taking a break.

My clients are fine with me being sick and they gave me a lot of leeway and understanding but I still feel like I should be working.

I'm kind of mad that I only got sick AFTER I came from that clinic. Before that I was 100%. Places that are supposed to help heal you are full of germs that make you sick...ironic.

Anyway do you still work when you're sick? Or do you put everything on hold and wait until you feel better?

Depends what it is. I'm getting over a cold and chest infection at the moment - it slows me down a little but, once I've cleaned mucus off my keyboard, I'm good to go.

But content is difficult with a head full of concrete. It requires constant concentration and you can't relax into it so, when I'm ill, I tend to hold back on that and deal with the more prosaic stuff. Not sure what I'd do if it were all content.:/

Why didn't I think of this? Ugh. Thanks!

Thank you. It's easy to get fired in America for being sick too. I'm glad I don't have an office job and I work at home.

I hate you and I want to release a pit bull to chase your icon up a tree.

    Lol ew.

At least you know what's wrong with you. I don't know what I have. For all I know it could be a weird strain of the flu that'll kill me in 48 hours.

I don't even think I can work on setting up my website at this point. I was supposed to install the theme and some plugins but ugh. I probably should listen to my body and get some rest.

Do you think ham will make me feel better? I haven't eaten anything all day.

Honestly if it's that bad I load up on vitamin C and turn on netflix then pass out for as long as I can sleep. Staying hydrated and pounding Airborne works wonders lol.

But like Panther said, I hardly ever get sick either, mostly because i have never taken antibiotics so my body is pretty good at fighting certain things off. But if it's food poisoning, that shit will run my ass over like a FedEx truck on the freeway!

Bacon makes everything better - food of the gods, seriously. Ham's what, one step away, so there must be some serious regenerative benefits. I go for sugar when I'm ill - jam donuts ftw.

The old wives tale is "feed a cold, starve a fever" - don't know if there's any truth in it but if you've got a temp, loads of fluids. But if it is some rare strain of haemorrhagic flu then I'd ignore everything and go for expensive booze.

I currently have a Sinus Infection. I get them every so often.

If you can figure out what you have and want to avoid the doctor, you can get antibiotics cheaply (Even in the US) if you know where to look. I am waiting for mine to come in.

It is awful to be really sick and work. But even if a client states 'they understand' you know it will not matter if the work does not get done. I feel for you.

I just bought buy 2 get 1 free bacon. Delicious.

OP, isnt' it great? I get migraines when Aunt Flo visits and it sucks. I still work but it's like I'm looking through a cloud.

Load up on vitamin C, be upfront with clients right away (don't wait last minute), and soldier on. I don't get sick very often, but try looking at a monitor when you have those migraine visuals it hurts so much.

I refuse to be one of those lame, shitty flakey freelancers so I push to make a deadline. I also work out even though I feel sick. It makes me feel better even though I don't want to go.

    Also, alcohol. God bless it.

I go by the saying of DO YOUR BEST.

If I have allergies or something small, I'll soldier on because I know taking the day off wouldn't be my best.

If I'm legitimately sick and don't have any pressing client work, I'll usually take the day off (because my best would be garbage), but I'll actually try to get better with sleep, healthy foods, liquids, etc. I won't just watch TV and pray I'm well enough to work the next day, because that usually doesn't work - at least in my experience.

WTF... you can work through migraines? That is incredible. Respect. Once I get visuals I already have razor blades behind my left eye and I've already yakked everything in my stomach from the past 48 hours (plus some). They are the WORST...

It's definitely tough but I find just powering through it seems to help. Like you said, things tend to drag out a bit..but better than putting it off all together and having to play catch up.

Yeah, I work while I'm sick sometimes.

Just 4 days ago I was in the emergency room being treated for an asthma attack (I didn't previously have an inhaler, although now I do) when I received a payment from one of my photo editing clients. Since his photos were back on my home computer and the time I would remain in the hospital was dubious, I quickly whipped out TeamViewer (remote access) on my phone, uploaded the files from my desktop to an e-mail, and sent the files.

Of course, I usually don't get sick, so I don't always have to do this.

    You guys are sweet. :)

We've got bacon and ham so I'm going to make myself a huge southern breakfast, then eat off of it all day. Little bits at a time.

I don't have a fever but I'm still throwing up. I had some greens last night for dinner and a small piece of ham. The greens had minced garlic in it. Garlic is great for fighting germs so I figured it'd do me some good. I kept it down but I still woke up gagging this morning. I'm just going to have some tea until my stomach settles, then make my breakfast.

@archon10: Working when Aunt Flo is visiting is THE WORST. Idk how you do it darling but I salute you. I'm dead to the world for like a week during that time. :| You're my hero.

@Apricot: We have some top shelf booze here. I may have a drink later. I read somewhere that tequila is good for a cold. Only one way to confirm that.

Meanwhile I am just going to push through. If I feel really bad I'll stop and rest but I've got a big project due Sunday night. I really can't afford to be sick.

I'd rather leave all jobs while I feel better, working when sick=50 percent less productive.

Depends, bro. Are you a grinder or a whiner? If the former, get back on it. If you can post paragraphs in the Lounge you can get your shit done. If the latter, I've got a couple two-page submits that'll make us both feel better.

I don't work when I am sick, and in the past I have pretended to be sick so I don't have to work.

When I worked a 9-5, I always called in sick once a month. Gotta use that stuff up for 3 day weekends.
