Working in Spain

All depends from what country you're and what do you know to do. In this moment the unemployment in Spain is at 25%, even higher in some regions (close to 30%). So, to get a working visa in Spain is a bit hard because of this issue 1st.
Second you really need to have some relations here, otherwise you'll be just an immigrant that will stay 3 months and then will be forced to leave.
I'm sorry but these are the facts and you have to know them before you even wants to think about working in Spain.
I can tell you that a room for living will cost you 150/200 Euro / month is a decent area (suburb of Madrid). The regular earning for starting is between 600-800 Euro/month but you have to pay the insurance that is from 70-180 Euro/month (this is if you work with regular papers). For food you need like 6-7 Euro/day.
So you just make your calculations and you'll see if is worth it or not.

What country are you from? Youth unemployment in Spain is around 50% now so the age group you are in are fighting for jobs. Even with a work visa you are competing against local resident young people who will do anything to get a job. The days of working in a bar for a few Euros are over as they will all be trying to do that. The Government has been clamping down hard on illegal working etc and the Spanish economy is one of the worst in Europe. Although I am not in your age group I worked for 11 years in Spain and had a successful business there until the meltdown came. I have friends there that still havent found a job since then.

Thanks for all your tips. I am currenty from Australia (so non-eu) and from the looks of it will really struggle to get a job. However, we do have a 1 year working holiday visa agreement with Italy so I might just do that and then just visit spain for 3 months at the end on a Schengen visa.

I was in Barcelona doing some work at a clients office for a few months last year and I must say the employment outlook over there is dismal! You'll be competing against people with MBA's for starbucks jobs... I met a guy who was selling these weird breakfast donuts they eat over there from a small van and chatted with him, he had a masters degree but couldn't find a job, so he sells donuts... weird place!
But honestly Italy isn't doing so great either... if I were you, I'd go north! The money is in Scandinavia nowadays.

I have similar plans, but I don't think getting a job in Spain is going to pan out well.
Have to agree with fact that doing any type of online freelance job might be a better option.

Perhaps teaching English in China might be something you would be interested in. You need an invitation letter from a school, a health check up in your country, and a few other things, and you are good to go. All you need in terms of education is to have a BA in any field.
There are quite a few Aussie's doing this and are having a good time.

Yea I am not really wanting to go to an asian country as I have already been to a few and would rather go to a european one but wanted to go to one that was more south (thinking of going to Naples). I don't really want to make money working in this job, just want to experience another culture ect and have enough to live off. Whilst at the same time being forced to work on my IM becuase at the moment I am not putting all my effort into it because I know that at the end of the week if I got no cash I can just hit up my parents. Whereas if I was in another country, I really do need to work at it otherwise I am not going to be able to pay rent or anything.

You speak English, if you could speak German and/or Russian as well, you might be able to find a job in real estate. But imo at the moment Spain is a good country to spend your money in, not to earn.
