    Hey you amazing people,

I work from home and do digital marketing, but i find it really difficult staying motivated. Some days i am very productive, achieving lots, i have a schedule working 8.30am, until 4.30pm, i go out for a walk in the evening or to meet friends. Then might work 7.30pm until 9.30pm, then watch TV and unwind for a bit.

Some days i am really lazy and get out of bed late. Then start looking at Youtube videos and get very unproductive. I try tell myself to get back on track and watch motivation videos but it is hard. Is it common to have unproductive days how can i try and stay motivated all through the week and why do you think this lack of motivation is happening?

Thank you so much for any advice you can give me and hope you have a lovely day.

Many thanks for your reply buddy. I do that but i still get distracted with YouTube etc. I am wondering what else i can try to keep my focus levels up, besides getting someone to stand next to me with a gun if i dont complete the set tasks lol.

You could try working less hours in a row.

Work 3-4hr, take a break, work again, etc.

I have a similar problem. I would try avoiding it altogether. Avoiding being in your "comfort" zone, doing the same routine, staring at a screen. Watching motivational videos can be helpful to some people but I feel they are just a way of deceiving oneself into thinking they are being productive. Try and do something practical around the house like tidying your room, reading a book, that'll help you be productive whilst also giving you some ideas for digital marketing.

If you like watching videos/shows whilst eating you could try quitting that or being more aware of that. You know you want to change so you're half way there. The other step is just about how much you really want the change. Are you comfortable being uncomfortable with your obsession with comfort? Or do you want to learn to comfortably deal with discomfort?

Try and see it as a lifestyle change rather than a quick change and instant results. It'll take a while but you'll eventually lose the appetite for the things that have been distracting you. Don't be too harsh on yourself.

Someone gave me this advice once,

If you're procrastinating imagine that you've done the work and how you'll feel etc, then take a tiny step towards doing what you need to, even if it's as small as opening the browser or mail client, in my experience I feel like I'm starting to take action again so I end up getting the whole work done. How you feel is very important. Hope that helps

If this is your main source of income, look into getting a shared office space - they're pretty cheap these days. Going to a physical office everyday will give you a boost in motivation and morale. It's also kinda difficult to slack off when everyone else around you is busy working.

Personally I experience this from time to time, and noticed I sometimes get bored working from one place too much, especially home. Try switching it up - a friend's house, coffee shop, library, etc.

Thanks everyone what a great bunch of people you all are, many thanks to you all. I particular loved this message above, i will try this and all the other techniques you have mentioned. I think also going to a coffee shop regular will help, as being in the same home office can make you bored and demotivated. Hopefully i can get more motivated and complete my to do lists.

I'm with the replies about making a list and taking tiny steps.

Get yourself a good list making / to-do tool (I use Trello - perfect for this use and free!)

Define your tasks, define your sub tasks (In Trello tasks are cards, sub tasks are checklists in cards for me).

When you have this all laid out for you in advance you can wake up, know exactly what you have to do and how you have to do it.

Plus nothing feels better than ticking off a task from a checklist (no matter how small) ;) These tiny wins are essential!

First of all, unfortunately youre not a machine so banging it out 25 hours a day for years on end isnt gonna happen... i tried...

Take some time to unwind, but dont unwind too much. You gotta find a balance.

Making lists is a good thing. I dont much like daily lists, because i like to be freee. But having monthly lists really keeps me in line and everything getting done and moving forward. Sometimes i knock oug 90% of my monthly tasks within the first 10 days of the month, and other times im chasing to have it all completed on the last days.

In any case, also remember that if you dont like what you do youll procrastinate more. I hate this cliche. But its true. But not all the way true. For me its not that i like or dislike what i do, i just like the money. But accomplishing my tasks and completing orders and doing my thing gives me a weird satisfaction, so it keeps my head in the game. I also like the unknown, knowing im building something completely unique and not knowing where its gonna take me. Unlike college and.. frankly unlike anything where a path is already set by other people that have done it. Boooriiing.

    Hi,

I've been working from home since 15 years...i've had my ups and downs, but here are the main things keeping me motivated:

    1. Sport, working from home in front of the computer will make you depressive and anxious, so its important that you do sports every day (or at least 3-5 times / week). jogging, gym, walking (at least 1 hour), whatever you like
    2. Have a shedule, i work from 9am to 4-5pm (with 1-2 hours break), once your shedule is done, you dont sit at the computer, you go out, read a book, meet with friends, invest time in small projects
    3. Buy a big board and put it on the wall in front of your desk, write some short time and long time goals
    4. If you can rent office space (i was not able to do this, but i will probably do this in the future)
    5. Weekend is relax time, no work, go out, nature, meet with friends, whatever you do dont sit in front of the computer

    Hope this helps!
